Although I'm a bit of a golden oldie fan at the best of times, Buddy Holly is still a bit before my time. But his music and his artistic talent was so brilliant that loads of people from my generation (and later even) love his music even if it is considered to be dated nowadays. Buddy Holly was born Charles Holley in 1936 in Texas but was known by his middle name Buddy. The only reason he became Buddy Holly (without the 'e') was because of a mistake the office girl made when she was sorting out his first music contract with Decca records! So he remained Buddy Holly for the duration of his career, like a kind of stage name. Buddy was ... Read the complete review

On February 3, 1959 Buddy Holly was killed in a plane crash. On that evening America lost one of their most talented young musicians of all time. He was only 22 when he passed away. My mum was only 4 so I was not even a distant thought. So how come I enjoy his music? I know some of his songs off by heart and I think they are great. His music had much strength. By what I have heard he was always full of energy and his songs were his life. ** A brief history of Buddy's Short Life ** He was born September 7, 1936 in Lubbock in Texas and named Charles Hardin Holley. He was often called Buddy as a young child and it stuck with him. As a child he played the ... Read the complete review

My love affair with Buddy Holly started at about the same time as that of my love affair with a certain ginger haired young baker! Okay let me tell you a bit of my history and then I’ll tell you his story. My Dad was a fairly traditional father figure and when I first met the aforementioned baker there had to be a good reason for us wanting to be in the back room rather than with my family in the lounge. Well we wanted to listen to Buddy Holly of course! I had four older brothers and one of them, like my baker, was a fan so records were always to hand. Actually we were listening one evening when my fella remarked that he’d owned that record once but ... Read the complete review

In just two short years, Buddy Holly endeared himself to the hearts and minds of the world's record buying public - a true star was born. Whilst Elvis appears to have had more plaudits, Buddy Holly was a natural musical genius, who lost his life in a plane crash just over 42 years ago, on February 3rd 1959. When we think of recording stars from the 1950s, many people recall the early days of Elvis Presley and Cliff Richard, both of whom had successful careers into the 1960s, 1970s, and in Cliff's case into the 1980s, 1990s and beyond. However Cliff and Elvis both had one important characteristic in common. They were performers. Magnificent ... Read the complete review

Charles Hardin Holley was born on 7 September, 1936, in Lubbock, Texas. The more familier spelling "Holly" is the result from a mistake on Buddys first recording contract. Buddy Holly's professional recording career covered less than three years, from 1956 to the beginning of 1959, but during that time he set standards at the time of irresistible rise of rock 'n' roll, providing an influence which the rock world has acknowledged to this day. His guitar playing brought country and rhythm & blues style together in a new form which had instant appeal, and the extent to which his songs have been covered by other artists is evidence of their ...
