Also largely absent are H.R.'s formerly manic vocals, here relegated to a more traditional punk yell in punk rock songs that are still enjoyable, but sound oddly uninteresting for being so rooted in the sound of the past. After thirty years of inconsistent, on-off releases and name changes, Bad Brains released their eighth album 'Build a Nation' to surprising mainstream success. Even without the benefit of having heard the transition albums in-between this and 1983's 'Rock for Light,' I was able to keep up to speed; mainly because this still sounds pretty much exactly the same, only a little less compelling.
