Advantages: A number of cracking cheesy pop songs.

Disadvantages: A fair amount of filler tracks.

'Busted' is the debut album from the English boyband of the same name. Whilst the bands second album 'A Present For Everyone' possessed quite a pop punk sound, this first album from the band is very much a pure pop album. 'Busted' contains 14 tracks and has a total run time of 44 minutes and 26 seconds; it's not a great album but wasn't a bad way for the three members of Busted to introduce themselves as a band anyway. Some of the tracks are quite impressive here, others however are more than a little bland and the album on the whole is therefore incredibly average. 'Busted' lacks consistency, with one track the band will sound strong with a pulsating stomping pop anthem; with the next however the music will fail to spark and the sound created by the band will not be particularly hard hitting at all.

The album begins well with 'What I Go to School For', a cheesy pop song about having a crush on a school teacher. It's a well constructed pop track; the chorus is highly catchy and it's a great song to sing along to. The music is simple but effective; this was actually the bands first single and peaked at number 3 in the UK charts, the band eventually went on to release four tracks from this album commercially as singles. The second track from this album 'You Said No' was actually the bands only number one single from this album, it's not the best that the band has to offer with this 'Busted' album but definitely still a pop song that is well worth listening to. Once more the chorus is incredibly catchy and if you like your pop music then this track should most certainly be of appeal.

'Year 3000' and 'Sleeping with the Light On' were two further singles which were released from this album, 'Sleeping with the Light On' is not really one which is of much interest to myself but 'Year 3000' is I feel the best track that this album has to offer. The lyrics are absolutely ridiculous, the band state here for instance that 'I've been to the Year 3000, Not much has changed but they live underwater'; it would seem to me that a lot has changed in a thousand years if everyone lives underwater, that's hardly a minor difference and every time I hear this terrible lyric from the band it makes me laugh. The track is packed full of terrible lyrics, this whole album is in fact, on this track it just doesn't matter though as the music is incredibly catchy and that's all that really matters. Pop music is not there for the lyrics to be over-analysed, it's made to be enjoyed and I personally do very much enjoy listening to this fine track from Busted that is 'Year 3000'.

This album actually comes complete with an ode to Britney Spears in the form of the track 'Britney'; an amusing track which possesses incredibly funny lyrics. Singing lines such as 'I become a slave for you, You drive me crazy' and 'And you say that you're not a girl, But I'll make you a woman'; the band here makes constant reference to Britney Spears singles with the lyrics which therefore provides for a highly amusing listening experience. This is not the best track from the album, it's a good bit of fun though and definitely a track which is well worth a listen.

'Psycho Girl' is another powerful pop piece from this album, closing track 'Loser Kid' also is a highly impressive pop song from the band and although this album is not consistent there are certainly a number of key tracks present here. The lyrics are not exactly intelligent, they're amusing however and the bands tracks always come complete with a powerful melody and a highly infectious chorus also. This is not the best pop album in the world, it's not even the best album that Busted ever released as a band; definitely give this one a listen if you love pop music though, you may have to utilise the skip function on your player a good couple of times throughout the albums fourteen track duration, some of the tracks are really quite impressive though and these alone make the 'Busted' album well worth investing in.

Released in 2002, Busted's self-titled debut album release is not exactly new anymore, some of the tracks present here definitely stand the test of time however and 'Year 3000', 'Psycho Girl', and 'Britney' also are three tracks that you should certainly look to listen to. This album didn't exactly change the world, it didn't reinvent the face of modern rock music, it did however inspire the formation of such bands as McFly and V so maybe that's something to be thankful for? Regardless of your thoughts and feelings about such bands as Busted and McFly; there is no denying that some of the tracks present on this debut album from Busted are incredibly catchy slices of cheesy pop. 'Busted' is not the coolest album in the world, a number of tracks do however make me smile here and although the bad probably does outweigh the good; when the music is good here it's absolutely excellent. Give 'Busted' a listen, see what you think; it's not exactly action packed from start to finish, it does however possess a good number of powerful pop songs.

Summary: Not exactly the best album in the world, it does however contain a number of infectious pop tracks.

As a younger man, I had a distinct hatred for Busted. I had actually forgotten about them until today, I'll have nightmares now but that's ok, I quite like them!
