reminding of Hat s vocals on Gorgoroth s early releases, but they too ultimately fit with the overall aesthetic and dynamic of the music. With Rituale Satanum , B Behexen are honing their craft, and though not stunning there s enough evil atmosphere and frenetic, gratifyingly raw riffs here to make it well worth picking up for fans of the old Norwegian/Finnish styles of BM. 1. because within five minutes of putting it on I always seem to have a beer in my hand yet still somehow be managing to play airguitar. Satan-obsessed Finnish band B Behexen play chuggy, old school black metal, marrying dirty, punky grooves with the evil sounding arpeggios championed by the likes of Dissection and Watain. The riffs are all extremely catchy, and whilst frequently repetitive, Behexen succeed in turning this to their advantage, with songs frequently developing around a single riff or two, slowy building up momentum before breaking into a chuggy, almost doomy midsection, all the time accompanied by beastial growls and the odd Celtic Frost-esque cry of ...
