Kezia - Protest The Hero

Premium Review Technical metal, but how does it end up sounding the same? (1200 words)

few bars of just the singer and a clean guitar (or maybe even acoustic? I can t tell) and then a bit of heavy stuff again! The song proves that Protest The Hero can be diverse. Heretics & Killers might also appeal to listeners who don t like really heavy stuff, but then what are they doing listening to this album? Divinity Within The beginning of this song is amazing, slowly rising guitars and an overall crescendo into the song. There s a repeated line in the backing vocals throughout the chorus, with an almost chant-like sound to it. Again, technical stuff going on here. But this is the first time in the album that I think the sound is actually dissonant, although ...

Fortress - Protest The Hero

Premium Review Protest the Hero - Fortress (2008) (273 words)

What this means is that the songs slowly build to a very powerful and usually very catchy climax, which I think is a great touch and a refreshing change from generic song structures - Intro, Verse, Chorus, Verse, Chorus... etc. I ...

Fortress - Protest The Hero

Premium Review PTH shows progression from previous album Kezia (268 words)
by LupusEvolve - written on 23/10/08 (Very useful, 33 readings)
Rating:

s just as good as their previous album Kezia, although I think the technical mathcore influences really come through even more in Fortress. But that just goes to show that Protest The Hero are actually progressing and evolving. The standard of the instrumentalists continues to be ridiculously and inhumanly high. The guitarists just can t get any better, and the same goes for the drummer and bassist. The singer s voice is still the same as in Kezia - not quite what you would expect at first, and so it takes a while to get used to before you can actually enjoy listening to it, but eventually you ll learn to love it. With Fortress, Protest the Hero have become more varied ...
