Advantages: A near flawless collection of tracks, with great originals and well covered oldies
Disadvantages: The one CD version misses that extra bit of quality that the 2 CD version has
Michael Buble's latest album, Call Me Irresponsible, is also his best offering to day. His past albums have all contained great mixes of well known and lesser known covers that complement his style really well. However, whilst continuing the same general style, this album differs in that it absolutely hits the nail on the head.
As with his previous album, It's Time, Buble has put together some well known covers, some lesser known covers, with two original tracks, Lost and Everything. The difference this time is that this album has that little bit extra that makes it classic. The well known covers are ones that everyone will recognise, and his versions of the likes of Me and Mrs Jones simply do not disappoint. The lesser known covers, such as Dream, serve to round off the album very well. However, the stars of the album, and the songs that give it the lift into greatness are the two original tracks.
Everything is a wonderfully smooth yet upbeat song that has an irresistible feel good factor about it. You can see boyfriends singing this song to their girlfriends and neither getting bored of it (vocal quality notwithstanding), just as you can see couples dancing to it together, in both an upbeat and intimate way. The second original song, Lost, contrasts greatly to Everything in that it is a more sombre, sad yet incredibly powerful and emotional song. Yet rather than being emotional for the sake of it it carries with it a sense of hope and appreciation, which makes the outpouring of emotion seem genuine and strong rather than forced and weak. Both songs are simply brilliant, and are the brightest gems in an album brimming with quality.
It should be noted that this album also comes in a 2 CD version, and if possible this extra version should be picked up. It contains remixes of Lost and Everything, which aren't essential, but also contains a version of Home, Buble's other outstanding original track, which is a must buy if you don't already own It's Time. This second also contains three Christmas tracks (great for one month of the year), and a fantastic rendition of Orange Coloured Sky, which will soon become a favourite for those who don't already know it.
An essential album from one of the best voices in the business. Buy it now.
Summary: An essential purchases for all who appreciate music and vocals at its finest

- 20/02/09 Home is probably the only track of Michael's that I like (so far!). Great review though. |

- 20/02/09 I'm not the biggest fan of Mr Buble, but he's certainly one of the leading lights of the easy listening genre.. |
