The First Three Years - Frank Turner
by IainWear - written on 03/04/09 (Very useful, 152 readings)
Rating:
When Frank Turner left Million Dead, he expressed a desire to keep playing songs and to keep touring, but didn t want to be part of a band any longer. Three years later - hence the title - after a couple of EPs and a couple of studio albums, we have this collection. "The First Three Years" contains the tracks from both the EPs as well as collecting together material he recorded with other artists early in his solo career and a few other random tracks. The album begins with the title track from his second EP, "The Real Damage". It s an interesting song that rather worryingly proves to be an accurate reflection of far too many nights in my own life ...

Rating:
someone who would shoot straight to the top in my books, aka. Mr. Frank Turner. I saw him at the Junction with my friend, neither of us knew who Frank Turner was, and when he came on stage we assumed he was the guy tuning the guitars, that was until he said "Hello, I m Frank Turner". Standing before us was then 25 year old Frank, with his trusty semi-acoustic guitar, a rather cool hat and a mind full of excellent songs. He captured the crowd with songs like "Thatcher Fucked the Kids", "Nashville Tennessee" and "Ballad of me and My Friends". For the first time ever, at the end of the gig I bought his first full length album, ...

Rating:
Sleep Is for the Week is the debut album by Frank Turner , the former lead-singer of punk rock band Million Dead, and released on January 15th 2007 via Xtra Mile Recordings. Those that know of Million Dead, or even those who don t, would know that the term punk was just what they were - fast, distorted angst, but now frontman Frank has returned on his own in a style best suited as folk with an acoustic guitar and a stunning ability for song-writing. The 13 tracks on show never have a weak spot or show an achilles heel. In the opening track "The Real Damage" Frank sings about the experience of the morning after a heavy night before. Waking up somewhere you ...

Two great tracks, pockets of quality in other songs, innovative sounds
Possibly two of the worst tracks to exist
Hide From The Sun - The Rasmus
Very creative, includes the great singles "No Fear", "Shot" and "Sail Away." It's awesome!
Maybe slightly too dark themed for these guys, who are actually really happy people.
Flight Of The Conchords - Flight Of The Conchords
Clever and insanely funny
Not Long Enough!
Gin - Cobalt
Innovative, some clever guitar work
Not that easy to get into - a bit indulgent
Blaqkout - DJ Quik & Kurupt
Some decent tunes
A little too experimental at times
Fortress Round My Heart - Ida Maria
Great slice of indie/pop-punk
There are no exciting ideas on the album, what you see is what you get
Duke Pandemonium - Marmaduke Duke
rubber lover

When Sex Leers Its Inquisitive Head - Peter Wyngarde
A great, strange album
