The best of the best ofs (Carry On Up The Charts: The Best Of The Beautiful South - The Beautiful South)

Advantages: Every song is a winner Disadvantages: Obviously more out of chronology there were still some hits not written yet I'm a big fan of the Beautiful South. They can be depressing and fun by turns; actually they can be depressing and fun in the same song - I'd go as far as to say even in the same line. This is the first of their best of albums (I think they have had three now, which have all been variations on this theme. This has classics like "Old Red Eyes is Back", "36D", "Bell Bottomed Tear", "Song for Whoever" and "Carry in Regardless" to name just a few. The vocals are amazing and the lyrics are mind boggling, and everything just sounds quirky enough to keep the whole thing interesting forever. I love how no two songs really sound alike and everything has a feeling of originality to it. Now the band have sadly broken up and some solo careers are being made, but it is a shame to see them go - and Carry On Up The Charts just shows how good they all were together - in the various stages of the band. Now everyone sing along with me. "old Red Eyes is back... Red from the night before the night before..." Summary: A good introduction to the Beautiful South |
