Advantages: some good choices
Disadvantages: many naff songs
With a title like 'Celebrate' you just know that you are in for a night of fun filled frolics with this CD. Or maybe not!
The album has 20 tracks to get you up off your chair and onto that dancefloor. These are the kind of songs that Aunt Maud and Uncle Ron will boogie to, while you watch from the sidelines, pretending you don't know them.
We are off to a good start as Robert Palmer rocks us with the sexy 'Addicted To Love.' His masculine touch lifts the song and the way he snarls the vocals is joyous, a shame he passed away so young.
Head next to 'The Monster Mash' which is short and ghoulish. It is one of the few novelty tracks that I can tolerate thanks to the amusing vocals and hilarious sound effects. While we are on novelty, check out 'Kinky Boots' where Honor Blackman and Patrick McNee deliver some ever so British vocals to a chirpy parpy beat.
Step back to the dawn of rock and roll, as Bill Haley plays out. It still sounds great to this day. Then grab some leg warmers, as Irene Cara belts out 'Fame' with all the grace of a flamingo on a lake. It is as camp as you like and a surefire party starter.
I loathe the 'Grease Megamix' which is laborious, overplayed, naff and makes me want to vomit. All the cutesey backing vocals drive me mad. Also steer clear of Timmy Mallet and his polka dot bikini, which has dated very badly. Instead, move swiftly onto The Mavericks who provide us with a slow dance with 'Dance The Night Away.' The song has a delightful linedancing aroma about it and the instrumentation is spot on.
The CD has some very cheap cover artwork and to be honest there are better compilations, but it's a steal for under three pounds!
