When Sepultura's fourth full-length 'Chaos AD' was released back in 1993 it took many fans by suprise, some decrying the band as sell-outs on account of the stripped down, chuggy riffs that replaced the high-speed chaotic thrash guitarwork of their earlier albums. Certainly 'Chaos AD' has a more accessable sound than its predecessors, with its slowed down thrash sound and its straightforward, punchy, almost doomy riffs, raw melodic solos and mid-paced, thudding tribal drums, but the result remains both crushingly heavy and powerfully atmospheric all the same. There's considerable experimentation on offer here, with sudden changes in tempo from high-speed ... Read the complete review

Chaos AD is the peak of Sepultura's career, their piece de resistance and a metal classic. The Sepultura sound is looser than their American equals like Pantera and Machine Head. None of the songs on this album can be faulted, from the call to arms of Refuse-Resist and Territory to the mayhem of Biotech is Godzilla and the tribal sound of Amen. A varied and exciting album which they never quite matched, this album should be in every metal fan's collection. ... Read the complete review

With the release of CHAOS A.D. in 1993, Sepultura surely reached the zenith of thrash metal. The album is a journey through a radical, political landscape from the oppression of the masses to the questions raised over biotechnology, issues as relevant today as much as they were 10 years ago. However, the political views aside, the album seriously kicks. The heavy beats of Nomad mix fluidly with the native Brazilian Kaiowas and the climax of Clenched Fist. The priceless track is Territory. Sheer kick-ass brilliance. Sep have bought a lot of good stuff out since then, revolving around the Roots album, but surely there is no greater thrash metal album than Chaos ... Read the complete review

This album is full of great riffs, great beats, tribal rhythms and the best screamer known to man spilling bile over 11 (one's an instrumental). This is definitely one of the best metal albums of all time and (along with Roots) one of da mighty Seps best albums. Refuse/Resist is an absolute classic, Slave New World is short and punchy and Propaganda is one of my favourite songs of all time. The amount and diversity of riffs in this song, the time changes (ranging from frenetic thrash to s-l-o-w chugga chugga moments) and Max's overall message make this song kick more ass than a man with steel toe caps being cruel to a donkey. I've heard it said that ... Read the complete review
