Advantages: THE SONGS
Disadvantages: Max is no longer with Sepultura, what a shame.
Many people are clueless when it comes to the band Sepultura. Sepultura when translated in Portuguese means “Bloody Grave”. The Brazilian band perhaps changed the face of metal forever when they released "Chaos AD", an album that is beyond its years. It’s almost a shame to see Sepultura without the prominent figure Max Cavelera. When comparing Sepultura albums, "Chaos AD" stands out. Not only was it innovative and unique, but it influenced many other bands such as Korn. "Chaos AD" combines thrash, hardcore, punk, and Brazilian influences in one. Lead singer, Max Cavelera vocalizes about injustices of his homeland Brazil...truly an amazing album WAY ahead of its time. I didn't really care for Sepultura at first, but after hearing this album I became a fan of theirs. I enjoyed the Brazilian elements that were added to the songs...the rhythms are unique and very moving. In my opinion, I think Igor Cavelera is the best metal drummer ever. I also liked the fact that the band added some punk influences in the album, they did a track with Jello Biafra (Dead Kennedys). The lyrical content is also very moving and displayed brooding naked emotions. The lyrics are mostly about political injustices in the bands native land (Brazil). Max Cavelera's scratchy half-screaming voice is full of anger...and I love it. The rhythms of the songs were very fast and filled with energy. There are many good tracks on the album, but the best tracks have to be "Refuse/Resist" which starts off with a very good drum rhythm. Another song that doesn't need words is "Kaiowas"...the whole song is acoustic with striking drums and echoing acoustic guitars that is very haunting. "Propaganda" is another good song that strikes a chord with the media. When this album came out, it was totally ahead of its time. When listening to this album I bet you can pick o
ut distinct elements that influenced many hard rock bands today. Now that Max has left Sepultura and formed his own band...I do not think that they will make such a significant impact like they did with this album. I declare this album a classic.
