Choronzon is the name of a demon from Biblical mythology- I only know this because in his memoirs eccentric Victorian occultist Aleister Crowley claims to have had a fight with him whilst leading an acolyte of his, naked and on all fours and a leash, through the Morroccan desert, stopping to summon Choronzon within a circle of salt before roundly trouncing him. Akercocke's third full length sees the band move more into death metal territory, eschewing the rough, course, treble-heavy production of previous album 'The Goat of Mendes' in favour of a much bigger, bassier and more crunchy production here that goes well with the album's mix of furious, high-speed ...  Read the complete review
