Whatever Happened To Benny Santini - Chris Rea

Premium Review Great debut album (848 words)
by ScottishWestie - written on 11/08/09 (Very useful, 63 readings)
Rating:

B. McCoy, Chris got a contract with Magnet records & McCoy became his manager. Magnet records were owned by Michael Levy (a.k.a. Lord Levy) who was impressed enough with Chris Rea to release his first single in 1974 called So much love . The single didn t get much radio play & consequently failed to make any impression on the charts. However, that early set back didn t stop Chris Rea from writing fresh material & in 1977 he had completed a number of songs for a debut album. Michael Levy felt that the songs were good but not great so he decided to approach Gus Dudgeon to see if he would produce the songs for the debut album. Dudgeon was famous for producing ...

The Very Best Of Chris Rea - Chris Rea

Premium Review The Road to hell (329 words)
by benlepensive - written on 21/02/09 (Very useful, 59 readings)
Rating:

I like a little helping of Chris Rea every now an then. His gravelly voice never fails to stir emotions deep within. This album gathers his biggets hits and is a real treat. Who is he: UK singer and songwriter, guitarist and occasional actor. He is bearded and has a very husky voice. On this album: The distinctive Road To Hell is an unnerving song. It makes me think of Dire Straits with the guitar work. The lyrics match the mood of the song perfectly, as Rea carves out a tale of a desolate trip ahead. You can literally hear the pitter patter of the rain on the car windscreen and sense the gloom. It is a dark and brooding song and a fine way to start the album. ...

Premium Review Blue Jukebox (111 words)
by Bryn2705 - written on 08/07/05 (Somewhat useful, 195 readings)
Rating:

studio offering by Chris and his first since his 2003 release Blue Street. This album marks a distinct return to a more basic jazz/blues style and will go a long way towards dispelling the MOR tag. Chris s voice just seems to get better and better with real leanings towards the bar room sounds of Tom Waites (no bad thing) My ...
