Live Undead - Slayer

Premium Review Live but Dead (388 words)
by wampyrii - written on 28/02/01 (Very useful, 94 readings)
Rating:

I picked this album up from a boot fair when I was 14 and actually a fan of the band. It is basically a live concert recording from Slayer recorded after the release of their second album. As such Live Undead features tracks from Haunting The Chapel and Show No Mercy, which are to be honest, not very good examples of Slayer's work and do not actually get any better through being played live either. Considering the age of the album, dating as it does from the mid 80s, the actual live production is very good. Slayer's musicianship is very tight and the production allows this to come through, yet this album simply hasn't stoof the test of time very well. ...

Hell Awaits - Slayer

Better than most people say it is (295 words)
by - written on 31/05/02
Rating:

This album comes in two flavours. The first is the botched reissue that most people have on CD that puts "Haunting The Chapel" in the middle of the record. This totally destroys the flow; either don't buy that version, or program your CD player so that "Captor of Sin" and "Haunting The Chapel" play at the end (where, being extra tracks, they ought to be). Now, that's better. First up, we've got 50 seconds of scene-setting: "join us", getting louder, followed by "welcome back" (backwards - I've sampled it and checked.) Then about a minute later, Tom Araya speeds through the first eight lines of the song in 20 ...

Hell Awaits - Slayer

Crowned Review See You in Hell (2286 words)
by Frankingsteins - written on 26/06/07 (Very useful, 73 readings)
Rating:

The second full-length album from American thrash metal band Slayer must have been something of a shock to the record buying public, even years before the infamous trial over its alleged influence on a couple of young fans, who decided to interpret the lyrics booklet as an instruction manual. Following the insane (and in most cases, merely immature) wickedness of the Norwegian black metal bands in the early 90s, who burned down churches and stabbed each other because the cold made them angry, and then screamed their lungs out about it against an impenetrably distorted musical background of white noise, this thirty-seven-minute heavy metal beast doesn’t seem quite so bad. ...

Perfect Cd almost bit mellow for deftones fans.

Expertly minimal. Too tedious for some tastes.

An album for of pounding rock songs There are a couple of filler tracks in the middle.

Gets stuck in your head Gets stuck in your head

Diverse, half acoustic, half electric A bit dated

a good blend of the early goth and later rock sounds there have been better albums

Pentecost III - Anathema
Unparalleled gloom, and a long-awaited resurrection of these vital releases. May lead to suicidal tendencies or manic depression. Okay for pregnant women though.

Organasm - Alchemist
Innovative Australian prog metal. Disappointingly repetitive and American.

Live A L'olympia - Jeff Buckley
Vocals, Music, Brilliance, Lyrics, Raw Energy, Passion Very little

Vocals, lyrics, creativity, sounds Tim's death

Feather And Stone - Tom Baxter
Vocals, music, lyrics Rare, not to every ones taste, Perhaps a little too mellow, Matthew Jay's album is better

When The Kite String Pops - Acid Bath
Innovatively harsh-sounding, and effectively violent. Too aggressive at cost to creativity, and not enough focus on pure doom metal.

The Infernal Depth Of Hatred - Anata
Original and creative technical death metal that avoids all the modern clichés. Antagonistic lyrics and aggressive delivery will deter the faint of heart.
