Advantages: The girl's got talent, that's for sure!

Disadvantages: Why do record companies always make singers churn out these mediocre songs?

When Christina Aguilera burst onto the scene in the late 1990s. She was instantly compared to Britney Spears - why not? They were both young, blonde, beautiful and blessed with the ability to sing and gyrate simultaneously. While Britney coyly admitted to being a virgin, and then pretended to be surprised when people found her schoolgirl outfits provocative, Christina was more honest and upfront from the start. Her first single asked for her suitor to "rub me the right way" - if he got this right, all his wishes would be granted. How people ever thought she was "squeaky clean," as some have claimed - who knows!

In the years since her debut, Christina has reinvented herself from a pop princess to a raunchy advocate of embracing your sexuality (in whatever form it may take). Now she is a glamourpuss in the style of Jean Harlow, and a wife and mother to boot. So, is her early stuff worth listening to?

I'm a big fan of Christina in her many guises, so I enjoy this album. The early singles - Genie in a bottle, What a girl wants, and Come on over are catchy, fun pop songs. Unfortunately, I'd say the rest of the songs on this CD are too reliant on her vocal ability and less to do with the meaning of the lyrics. It's as if they just gave her a bunch of generic songs with a wide range of notes so that she could show off her (incredible) singing range. Having said that, it's a nice album to listen to if you are in the mood for some old fashioned, feel good pop. The ballads are enjoyable if you like that sort of thing - look out for her beautiful rendition of the Disney song "Reflection."

Summary: Worth buying for the singles

There are some great songs on this albums, 'Stripped' is by far her best yet though.
