Advantages: Dre makes fantastic tunes
Disadvantages: getting too commercialised?
They certainly aren't. Gangster rap/hip-hop has gone a lot more commercialised since groups such as Public Enemy and NWA made it big. Dre is no exception. Forgetting his roots in Compton, one of the most notorious neighbourhoods in the world, he now actually goes to awards ceremony and isn't rapping about where he's from anymore. He's changed from his first album to rapping about people who 'forgot' him, like the song'Forgot about Dre' which he did with Eminem. His album though is fantastic. Though its quite bitter, thinking about what he didn't get rather than what he's got. It starts off with a fantastic track with Dre kicking it in with "Things just ain't the same for gangsters, times are changing" Which they definitely are. Its becoming too commercialised, taking away from where it all really began in the 'hood. The tune 'Still D.R.E' with Snoop Dogg is another fantastic addition to the album, claiming that Dre is representing for the gangsters all across the world. Whats the Difference is another fantastic tune, and the beat in Murder Ink will chill your spine. All in all, I've basically talked cr*p in this opinion cos I didn't plan it but I do like Dre. He is a fantastic artist and 2001 is an absolutely fantastic album. Buy it if you can
