Dredg are a unique and fantastic band. If you haven't heard them before they fall in the 'alternative' music bracket, and blend an incredible mix of art and emotions.
Originally they came from far heavier roots, their first album Leimotif saw them branch away from this and embark on their own style and sound.
El Cielo as seen as the fan's favorite album and subsequently have been very harshly reviewed as people constantly compare all their releases to this one.
This came out in 2002 and is available as standard, digi pack and 5.1 surround. Would be nice to get the full vinyl treatment but not sure that this will ever happen.
15 tracks long but is full of little interludes and reprises all of which make this album a treat to listen to. It ranges from soft acoustic work, with clear earnest vocals some great choruses and still some moments of the occasional heavy leanings, full of quirky changes and timing with an array of sounds and samples. There really is an incredibly diverse range of sounds all themed around the concepts of Lucid Dreaming, Change and Sleep Paralysis.
Probably one of my favorite albums of all time and although Dredg in my opinion haven't released anything that could be described as a 'dud cd' it will be hard to ever top this.
If you had to compare them to other bands i would say fans of - Mewithoutyou, Sigur Ros, Tool, Circa Survive.
They are a very rewarding band to listen to as there are many hidden secrets and easter eggs to be found within their music and artwork. Always a pleasure to see live especially as they always jam it up a little at every gig
