Advantages: It's Elvis

Disadvantages: Some appalling songs

CLAMBAKE was Elvis' 25th movie - he always wanted to be a movie star but always hated the movie treadmill that his manager, Colonel Tom Parker, had him on. This movie was one of the worst. The songs that go with the movie too are not Elvis at his best, not by a long shot. The title song is a fluffy concoction that would be completely forgotten today if it had not been an Elvis song. The worst song has got to be 'Hey Hey Hey' - the lyrics are appalling and it is sad to think that this is the guy who only a few years before had set the world on fire with a completely new kind of music.

Having said that, BMG's Elvis specialist label FTD has done a sterling job with this release, as they have also done so with all of their releases. This is a deluxe package with a wonderful booklet, and a lot of outtakes - although to be honest some of the outtakes are sad to have considering the rubbish songs that they are outtakes of.

This is only an essential purchase if you are an Elvis obsessive (like me!).
