      Very helpful

A unique album from one of the best Indian singers, individual in style and a joy to listen to.

I purchased this album back when it was released in 2008 and still listen to this album after 3 years. Sonu Nigam is a playback singer in India who has been singing since 1991 as a playback singer for Indian movies. Playback singing is the primary way of singers to be noticed within the music industry in India... due to movies having a musical element to them in every film. Sonu has a distinctive voice and his versatility in the way that he can sing in any style shows through well within this album. Sonu Nigam was one of the first to produce independent albums within india and "break the mould" so to speak within the music industry.

Each track in this album is sung in a different raag (indian methodology and notation for scales). Each song has it's own feeling and different take on how classical indian music can be combined with modern instrumentation and orchestration. It combines both Western and Indian instrumentation fusing to become a very distinct sound and a pleasure to listen to. The emotion of each song comes through in Sonu's voice and the capability of his singing is also displayed in each song he sings.

Good use of instrumentation from the use of both western and indian instruments. Piano, Bass guitar, strings, tabla and other instruments are prominent within various songs and have a good sense of groove and pace. To top it off.. Sonu Nigam displays his emotive singing whilst also demonstrating the use of Raag within the song. Harmonies and layering of the vocals are also present and a joy to listen to. Melodically it is very distinct also with both a western and indian feeling fusing together to make one dance, listen, feel comfort and most of all... enjoy the songs.

I would recommend this album to anyone who is looking to listen to a distinct piece of music... or even wanting to increase their collection of indian music. Music is a universal language... don't let language get in the way of what sounds brilliant to your ears.
