Classics - Aphex Twin

The music of Aphex Twin is an aural mystery to many many people, (not least my wife!) and the 'Classics' album won't help new listeners to get their head around it. In fact it may leave them wondering that, if these are the classics, what are the tracks that didn't make it onto here like? Although I'd heard some Aphex Twin before, this was the first Aphex Twin CD I'd actually bought. As is mentioned in the other review of this collection, it perhaps wasn't the best place to start but I got on with it ok and have grown to love the many varied music by him since. I love any music which comes out of the mind of the Aphex Twin, due to the incredible talent and ability continually evident in it. In the case of Classics, I have to say that I have found the most objectionable Aphex Twin album to date. Tracks 1, 5, 9 and 13 (a live version of track 1) are all brilliant. All the rest, however, never fail to give me a headache. Really, though, this is proper headache stuff. For the Aphex Twin devotee, this is as essential a purchase (if not quite at the top of the wish list) as anything else by the man, but as an introduction, I'd suggest you steer well clear. ...  Read the complete review
