Clear as Day - Scotty McCreery

My husband and I have always been fans of America Idol, obviously, the America version of the singing talent show created by Simon Cowell. We have watched quite a few of the seasons now and in season 10 we could tell that the eventual winner Scotty McCreery was one of our favourites right from the beginning. I am a big country music fan and here was a young boy, (he was born in the 90's!! ) who had such a raw classic country voice that was just waiting to be explored. What I love about his voice is that its a typical country voice but not one you would expect from someone so young, its very deep and has all the pain and heartache of years of broken hearts etched into already which makes it the perfect voice to sing country songs.

However, what I love about Scotty is that his songs are fresh and upbeat and have meaning to them. he's a great storyteller and draws you in with his love of the music.

Clear as Day is Scotty's debut album, obviously as he only just won American Idol before that and it was released in October 2011 although I think we got it in England a little while after that as not everybody has heard of him in the country. So far the album has done really well and was certified platinum in the United States.

I knew that album was going to big when I heard his first song on the American Idol finale. The song that was his winning song and the one the winner sings is track number 2, I Love You This Big but it was obviously written with him in mind as its a big ballad with the inevitable key change nearer the end taking it up a beat. It's a fun song though and one that he really had fun singing in my opinion.

Another one of my favourite off this album is The Trouble with Girls. In it Scotty sings about how girls are pretty much a mystery to him and his finds it hard to figure them out but hey, aren't they pretty and sweet and then this is my favourite line, "They steal you with hello
      They kill you with goodbye!!"

I also really like track number 8, Write your number on my hand. It tells the story of a summertime romance where the boy meets a girl and they only have a few days but he wants to get her number written on his hand. This song always reminds me of little summer romances I had and brings back the fun of those younger days.

If you're a fan of Keith Urban (or Mr Nicole Kidman) then you will like track number 6, Walk in the Country that is a cover version of Keith's song that Scotty performs. I had actually never heard the Keith Urban version before so I had nothing to compare it too but I really like this song and think Scotty must really do it justice. The song talk about taking time out from a busy schedule in the city to take time out and walk in the country with the wind blowing in your hair and watching the sun and the trees. I like these words because I think we should all take time out of our busy schedules to relax and do something like this. A perfect country song in my opinion.

This is a great album to sing along to in the car, its got some great tunes and stories and I just love Scotty's unique country voice. A good listen if you enjoy country but don't want anything too heavy.
