"Clubmix Ibiza 2001: 42 Of The Biggest Ibiza Club Anthems" - The front cover says it all. I was looking through my shelves the other day and was shocked to find that I didn't own a single club/ibiza compilation album. Perhaps I've borrowed some from friends in the past, but I couldn't find one club album in my entire collection. Wanting to change this, I asked a few friends what they recommended, and they came up with this album - Clubmix Ibiza 2001. The album is perfect for someone in my situation as it includes a wide range of dance tracks, including many newer ones from this summer such as 'Another Chance' by Roger Sanchez, as well as some older, very successful tracks such as 'Groovejet' by Spiller. Therefore, this album is the perfect cmpilation for someone who owns little or no dance albums, and wants a collection of the best tracks over the last few years. The album is spread over 2 discs, each containing 21 tracks, and can be bought for just a couple of pounds more than a single-disc album containing around 15 tracks. Therefore, with three times as many tracks, Clubmix Ibiza offers superb value for money. Most double albums, 2Pac's greatest hits for example, only include 13 or so tracks per disc, and a single-disc album with over 2 tracks, such as Outkast's Stankonia, would be described as a large album that is good value. For that reason, Clubmix Ibiza is excellent value. The album is a continuous mix, so the tracks run into each other with no gaps in between. This allows for some superb bits of mixing from the creators of the album that makethe tracks run into each other like clockwork. But what about the tracks? Well, I will now go through all of the tracks with a brief description of each one. - DISC ONE - 1) Roger Sanchez - Another Chance A great way to kick off the album, no-one could argue if this was described as one of the biggest
club hits of summer 2001, reaching number one in the UK singles chart after establishing itself as an Ibiza anthem. I hear Roger Sanchez has a follow-up single on the way soon, too. 2) Jakatta - American Dream You may recognise this as it was featured on the hit film American Beauty. Although not the newest of tracks, this is still very good and again was a very big hit. 3) G-Club - Guitarra G Before purchasing this album I had never heard this track before, but it followed suit with the rest of the tracks on this album in being an good track with a memorable tune. This one has no vocals. It is hardly my favourite track on the album, but I still like it. 4) Basement Jaxx - Romeo After huge success with Redalert and Rendezvous the Basement Jaxx seemed to disappear for a while, but they bounced back with this big hit that you will surely have heard. Another top tune on this top album. 5) Gypsy Men - Barbarabatiri You, like me, will probably recognise this one from an old advert, I believe it was for Guinness. I'd never heard of the song before, but it stuck in my head instantly as Im sure it will for you too if you've seen the advert. 6) Bob Marley vs Funkstar Deluxe - Sun is Shining Again this is a bit of an old track, but it is a very popular song and one of my favourites on the album, featuring the vocals of Bob Marley with a great beat. 7) David Morales pres. The Face ft. Juliet - Needin' U This is yet another old yet well-known track on the album, although I personaly didn't recognise the name. But once you hear it, you are sure to recognise it as another club anthem. 8) DJ Pied iper & The Masters of Ceremonies - Do You Really Like It? Another number one single from this summer, this garage track is another of the big hits on this album, with a chorus that will stick in your head. You may notice that a long length of vocals at the start is mis
sed from Track 8 and is actually at the end of track 7. 9) Sonique - It Feels So Good Although this song is again a bit of an old one, it was number one for some time and was reognised as a top club anthem when it was out, so it obviously can't be bad. I find that with some of these tracks, as I haven't heard them for a few months I am no longer 'bored' of them, so I like listening to this one now. 10) Faithless - God is a DJ From the bald man who brought you 'Insomnia' came this track is again well-known and it has a really good tune and effective vocals. 11) ATB - Till I Come Another 'ancient' track on the album that was a massive club anthem. This particular version of Till I Come features an excellent addition that I don't believe was on the original track this added tune can be foudn at its best around 2 minutes 17 seconds into the track. Again although I got bored of this, I haven't heard it for a while so once again I enjoy playing this track now. 12) Safri Duo - Played-A-Live (The Bongo Song) Yet another massive tune included on this album with a unique drumming beat not usually found in club tracks, and a catchy tune as well. This is the second track on the album that has no vocals in it, but the drums more than make up for that. 13) Ian Van Dahl - Castles in the Sky This one of the more recent tracks on the Clubmix Ibiza and is arguably my favourite track on the album. Several great tunes and good vocals as well make this another top tune. 14) Nalin & Kane - Beachball I'd never heard of this one before but as Track 13 is one of my favourites, I often heard this track as it came on after Castles in the Sky Ended. And after listening to this a few times the beat stuck in my head and I now really like it. 15) York - On the Beach This is another massive track from last year I believe, it has an excellent tune and
will be recognised by most people. 16) Da Hool - Love Parade This is another contender for being my favourite track on the album, along with Castles in the Sky, it starts of with a drumbeat then an excellent tune comes in that is unique and will surely be recognisable to most of you. This is another essential anthem included on Clubmix Ibiza. 17) Darude - Sandstorm Out around the same times as On the Beach (Track 15), this was also a big hit from last year and one that dance fans simply must have somewhere in their collection. 18) Delerium ft Sarah McLachlen - Silence If you are like me you will not recognise the name, but after listening to this track I recognise it as one of the biggest club anthems of this year. The vocals are excellent on this one. 19) Cosmic Gate - Fire Wire An altogether 'harder' track than most of the others, I disliked this at firts but it has since grown on me and I really like it now. The track begins with an excellent transfer from the previous track, you will have to skip back to the end of Track 18 to hear what I mean. 20) Storm - Time to Burn Another timeless classic with several different sections that are easily reognisable and sound great, this is another ocntender to be my favourite track on the album. This track starts brilliantly, again you will have to skip back to the ending of track 19 to hear this. Marvellous! 21) Zombie Nation - Kernkraft 4000 It was the mobile ringtone that everyone simply had to have, and the track was damn good too. This is one of the most famous dance tracks in recent times, and it is therefore excellent with a very catchy tune. - DISC TWO - 1) Modjo - Lady Disc Two kicks off with one of the biggest dance tracks from last year, with excellent vocals and a great beat this tune is another great addition to the album. 2) Spiller - Groovejet This was arguably the biggest d
ance track of 2000, and although it is therefore quite old, it is still one of my favourites on the album, with great vocals from Sophie Ellis Bextor, who has since gone on to release a solo single - Take Me Home. 3) Moloko - Sing it Back This is probably one of the oldest tracks on the album but it is still of just as high quality as the rest, this was Moloko's first big hit and it is a dance classic. Also, for the record, I lost £1 when ebtting that this was called Bring it Back when it's actually called Sing it Back. Damn! 4) Madison Avenue - Don't Call Me Baby Another masisve track from last year, this track has a good beat and top vocals from the people who brought us 'Who the Hell are You'. 5) Pete Heller - Big Love This was another one that I didn't recognise the name of but when I listened to it I foun that it was a recognisable club tune with a catchy chorus and some good effects. 6) Static revenger - Happy People I didn't know the name of this track but as it was featured on Sky One I grew to love it, and now I have it on an album I play this one on a regular basis. It is a slower track than many on this album, but it is still one of the best. 7) Fatboy Slim - Song for Shelter I'm pretty sure had previously never heard this track from Norman Cook, it begins with a guy talking for a while, but after a while a tune begins that blends in well with the guy's voice and gives an overall effective sound. This is probably the shortest track on the album, being less than two minutes long (not including the extensions on tracks 6 and 8). 8) Bob Sinclair - I Feel for You This was yet another of the tracks that I know well but didn't recognise the name of. It is another essential track for club fans, as so many of these tracks are, which adds to making it an essential album. 9) Santos - Camels You will probably recognise this
track, it follows suit with the others as being a well-known and catchy tune that will get your head beating to the tune. About ! and a half minutes in there is an excellent fading affetc which adds to making this yet another decent track. 10) Wink - Higher State of Consciousness This HAS to be the oldest track on the album, I think I had it one something like Now 34 (We are now up to Now 49). It includes a weird yet effective sample in the main chorus with a beat that will surely get your head beating every time you hear it - this track is best played loud. 11) Three Drivers - Greece 2000 Like Track 6 on this disc, I had grown to really like this slower track despite not knowing the name, and now I have it on an album I listen to it a lot. Most of you who listen to this album will recognise it. My favourite part of this song is after about 1 minute when a new beat is coming into the song, it fits in perfectly. 12) Energy 52 - Cafe Del Mar This is no doubt one of the more well-known tracks on Clubmix Ibiza, being another club anthem, and it is one of my favourite tracks, along with 'Castles in the Sky', 'Love Parade', 'Fire Wire', 'Happy People' and 'Time to Burn'. After about 1 and a half minutes a brilliant beat comes into the song that will have your head beating like crazy (or maybe it's just me?!) 13) Arrola - Dreaming This is yet another kickass club anthem that will be instantly recognised by most of you, although I personally didn't recognise the name. It is one of my favourite tracks on the album, combining a good tune with good drumbeats. It has both slow and mellow parts and faster, harder parts, both of which are straight out of the top drawer. It also has catchy (albeit foreign) vocals on the chorus. 14) DJ Jean - The Launch I remember this one from Benidorm in 1999, although an old one this is a classic and as it hasn't been h
eard for a while you will no doubt want to listen to it again and again. It is one of those tunes that sticks in your head. 15) Goodfellas ft. Lisa Miller - Soul Heaven This is the one with vocals that you will either love or loathe, perosnally I used to be really annoyed by them but the song is growing on me. The actual beat is very good. 16) Yomanda - Synth and Strings This is another one of yesterday's massive dance hits, and it has a great tune that will stick in your head. It is an all-round great track with a beat that builds up over time to reach an excellent level. 17) Elementfour - Big Brother It is a crime not to recognise this from the massive TV Show, and at the time of Big Brother 1 (Summer 2000) this was my favourite song for quite some time. It is still excellent now, it is one that I have never got bored of listening to. Despite me having not mentioned this track earlier, it is probably my favourite track on the album, especially the part 27 seconds into the track, an excellent build-up to the famous chorus tune. 18) Planet Perfecto - Bullet in the Gun By the title you will probably recognise the song, I think it includes the vocals from a very old song with a good backbeat. 19) Schiller - Das Glockenspiel The title suggests that this is a german track about a percussion instrument similar to a Xylophone, which makes senese as the main tune sounds like it has been played by a Glockenspiel. I had previously never heard this before but I now really like it. 20) Rank 1 - Airwave I didn't recognise the name, but this is another club anthem that is one of my favourites on the album. If you don't recognise the name like me, after 30 seconds you should recognise the tune. It is pretty slow at times, which is effective as it builds up to a big beat. My favourite part is 1 minute 20 seconds into the track, where it hits a massive beat after bulding up to it.
      21) William Orbit - Barber's Adagio For Strings This should be recognised, although it will take well over a minute to reach the well-known chorus that is slow yet very good, and a new beat is added after the main chorus which fit excellently. All in all Clubmix Ibiza is a fantastic album with very good value for money, and a great set of tracks old and new. Also, the transfers between the tracks sound excellent as two different beats are mixed together. I'm afraid I can't give an exact price as a friend bought it for me, but I am told that it is a similar price to normal albums which contain half asmany tracks - so the value and the all-round product gets 5 out of 5.

Great mixes of top tunes and it has a little garage. Why the hell is the DJing so bad? It really is terrible. Some of the tracks, with the way they are mixed, are dispicable. After purchasing the album a few days ago, I wish I hadn't bothered. The Dj really does let the side down. I can't even find a name to give all the credit to for such terrible DJing. Maybe thats the problem, they couldn't be bothered to pay for a professional DJ with some talent. The songs on the album are absolutely brilliant. Of course there could be improvements with songs added or omitted but mainly they are good. Overall a good album with no major advantages to it. Pretty standard. All I can say is, hire it from somewhere before buying it. Make your own mind up. It isn't exactly overly expensive but if it is money spent that you later regret, it maybe worth checking it out in some other way. Borrow it off of an unfortunate friend that had not read this article and hadn't realised for example.. To Universal Music Operations limited - SORT THAT DJ OUT!
