A good spend of a tenner

First of all, this is by far my favourite of the Clubland Series. A lot of them these days seem to consist of screechy vocals, almost bordering on that "happy hardcore" stuff, but without the annoying tempo. However, clubland 4 really is a good spend of a tenner. A great variety of tracks and artists, and a good mix between the recorded and live songs. I was particularly impressed with the way the live recordings mix in with the pre-recorded. If you love the clubland classics, then this is the album for you. A good mix between the dancing and the chilling, especially on disk one, and a very good track listing if you are interested in using CDs to pick out your next vinyl purchase, especially if you are big on the trance side of things. I really cannot fault this album. Two disks of pure clubland pleasure. It doesn't hurt to have a good sing along to this album in the shower, either. It is catchy enough!

        Very helpful

        good stuff

I remember buying this album when it came out, as I was just getting into all the clubland stuff and it seemed like a good value purchase. I was not disappointed as it gave me many hours of listening pleasure! 36 tracks in total on here.

Disc one gets off on a good foot with a sophisticated vocal turn on 'Irish Blue' from Flip n Fill, the track is polished production wise and should have been a bigger hit. Scooter go all shouty on 'Maria' and the song really grates, though they did dispense with the hideous high pitched vocals for this song.

I adore the riff in 'Elements' by Neo Cortex which makes the hairs on your arms leap up, it is one of the disc's defining moments and harks back to the glory days of Ferry Corsten, circa 1998.

There is a suspect appearance from Sophie Ellis Bextor, who does not sit so well with the rest of the material. Sophie is far too posh to be lumbered with the likes of Scooter, even if she has been remixed!

Disc two continues to thump them out, Ultrabeat get downright trancey with a soaring mix from CJ Stone. The power of the synths really sells this song and it is one I like to return to. Less successful is a remix of Rachel Stevens, which fails to translate into a poppy trance track and should have been left well alone.

LMC manage to pull it out of the bag with some vigour, thanks to a commanding vocal from legend Rachel MacFarlane. The blending of U2 and Whitney Houston works really well for this crossover dance/radio hit.

As the album draws to a close, the UD Project slow things down with the lovely 'Summer Jam.' It is mellow and chilled enough to unwind to, but the bassline still carries it as a dancefloor filler.

Curiously, the album ends with Elton John and DJ Casper, two very odd choices, after the onslaught of trance tracks which had been building the momentum up until that point!
