After the vodka-fuelled death of drummer John Bonham in September 1980 saw the world's greatest band call it a day, nothing more was heard of Jimmy Page for almost two years until he trawled through the vaults at his home studio in Berkshire and managed to get enough outtakes together to produce this final, rose-eyed tint look back at the band's twelve year recording career. Coda, as the name suggests, is a finale, a last piece of music on the sheet. A fitting end. 1980 was a sad time for Led Zeppelin fans, John Bonhams death and their subsequent break up being the reason. Two years on, and Coda was released to the public. Comprised of one live song and other songs left off their various albums over the years, this album was really not a swansong as such but more of an after thought, still worthy nonetheless of a place in any fans record collection. A dictionary definition of the word coda states; "The final, sometimes inessential part of a musical structure." In November 1982, "Coda" was released to an unsuspecting public, two years after the death of John Bonham. While there are no standout pieces, this collection of songs does succeed in chronicling Zeppelin's 12 year flight. "We're Gonna Groove" opens the album and is taken from the recording sessions that yielded "Led Zeppelin II". This track was a one time show opener and it's easy to see why. Jimmy Page adds sub-octdivider effects on guitar while a young Robert Anthony Plant screams his head off. "Poor Tom" is an interesting piece left over from the "Led Zeppelin III" era.
