Carnival - New Model Army
by steerpyke - written on 10/10/06 (Very useful, 193 readings)
Rating:
of dumbing down and re-branding but as it becomes apparent that those at the top of the system care very little for anything but themselves, the importance of bands like New Model Army only increases. New Model Army have always been something of an underground band, though if measured in album sales or sheer tribal devotion of the fans would surprise many at their popularity, its just that being that money and chart position are things that are of little concern to the band, they are sometimes hard to spot in the corporate world of "selling units" and "hit singles". The release of Carnival, therefore, like most of their albums, probably made very ...

Eight - New Model Army

Rating:
a career (well, clearly not 'after') is fantastic. you have just dug up: an unexploded bomb 2. You Weren't There A slow song. Something New Model Army do so well that it's surprising they don't do more of them. This too seems to be based in some easern europe/asian war theme. It's about how very little of the horror we can understand by what the media says. and not just because of who is saying it, but because it is secondary information. you have just dug up: an old newspaper 3. Orange Tree Roads A rousing, lively third track that really gets the album ...

Impurity - New Model Army

Rating:
band, this would be a good summing up of their work, yet they do have so much more to offer. The first obvious clue that you are on to something New and different is that where the guitar solo would be, this band instead use a excert from a police patrol car radio transmission. Space has the same heavy drum and bass drive, yet is a more laid back affair, Justins voice sounding as rich as it ever can and again with a suprise middle 8 bar, the distant voice of a women reciting a poem is just made out in the background. Innocence is a pounding affair, with some amazing time changes and the beat of the song stoping and re-starting with precise timing. A song whose ...
