... gems. There are not many people I would listen to rap about how they got their record deal for over 12 minutes, but even 'Last Call' had me hooked from the beginning. There are many talented featuring artists on the album, such as Jamie Foxx, Jay-Z, Twista and Talib Kweli. My favourite song is the eighth number, 'Never Let Me Down'. It has a beautiful melody which supports the lyrics in actually making you feel comforted. Track List: 1. Intro 2. We Don't Care 3. Graduation Day 4. All Falls Down* 5. I'll Fly Away 6...more

"The College Dropout" was the 2004 debut album from the producer-turned-rapper Kanye West. As Kanye started off as a producer for all the big names in Hip Hop such as T.I., Nas and Jay-Z, providing his unique chipmunk sound (where he uses a soul sample and increases the pitch, to give it an Alvin & The Chipmunks sound) to their tunes, which is why he had so many connections, and so many chose to collaborate with him on the album. (Kan)ye chose to produce the whole of the album, unlike later ones, just to show what he had to offer for other Hip Hop acts, because he was going to contiune to make beats as well as rap no matter how successful this ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review College Drop Out - Kanye West: Kanye do it? Yes he Kan (342 words)

College Dropout is the debut album from Kanye West. I got into Kanye from his later work, so came to this knowing how good he was going to get, but how was he to start with? Kanye took 4 years of recording to make this album, which should have ended up in a quality product right? Unlike the predominant Hip Hop of the time, Kanye West discarded the gangster image of violence and drugs, and went for a much more diverse content, including religion, family and sexuality. The result is an album that gives you a lot to think about, and this is a lot of the reason why the album went of the massive critical acclaim. Lyrics-wise, Kanye is a great ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Great Breakthrough Album by a great talent (1235 words)

01. Intro lyrics - This kind of sets the tone for the album concept, its a man with a silly voice talking about college, Kanye obviously either really regrets dropping out of college or is keen at this stage to make it clear he's a success because he dropped out, either way this is not of any musical interest to the album. 02. We Don't Care - This isn't one of the best songs on the album, its Kanye talking about why education isn't working, his rhymes are good, the backing track is laid back and catchy but it lacks the hook of some of his other tunes and is one of the weaker tunes on this album for me. 03. Graduation Day - Gospel tinged tune with ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review College Drop Out - Kanye West: I'm glad he dropped out of college to create this album! (242 words)

College Dropout is by far the best album I have ever listened to. I first got into it when I was around 12, which may seem as though I was just a wannabe gangster at an impressionable age. However, even then, I knew that Kanye West was going to be a star; this album is pure brilliance. It's clear that every single song has come from the heart, and bad life experiences have been turned into musical gems. There are not many people I would listen to rap about how they got their record deal for over 12 minutes, but even 'Last Call' had me hooked from the beginning.
