if you are a metalhead who loved 'come to daddy- song and television commercial' this may not be for you. after the aggressive near-hardcore of the title track, there is the gentle lull of 'flim'. following this, the ep starts to take shape as the first two tracks are merged in various shapes and sizes, without sounding at all similar, along with the addition of distorted samples of richard's voice. the result is astounding to anyone. there is the cartman-esque whinge of 'little funny man' and the complex remix of 'weakling child'. the highlight for me, however is 'bucephalus bouncing ball', which features a solo of effects ... For an EP, this is stunning value for money. If you're a fan of the eponymous title track, then this is of course a must buy. However, all fans of Aphex Twin will find something to their liking here. The tracks are all particularly interesting, and a surprisingly high proportion (5, in fact) of the 8 tracks are quite friendly on the ear (a consideration generally far from the plans of Aphex Twin). Noise has never felt so smart... Released in 1997, when electronic-rock crossovers were mainstreaming (The Prodigy, Nine Inch Nails etc.), 'Come To Daddy' was a hyper-intelligent piss-take. However, because of the quality of this techno-metal frenzy, many took it (and its controversial Chris Cunningham video) seriously. Nevertheless, I'm not bothered about its credibility, I loved this track for its sheer excess. It's impossible not to laugh at the lyrics "I want your soul/ I'll eat your soul/ Come to daddy", although your parents will never understand the irony.
