Many people such as myself waited an overly long period of time for some of the band members of Guns N Roses to get back on the scene. At long last, Slash, Matt and Duff have decided to get back together along with Scott Weiland who used to sing for Stone Temple Pilots to form a new supergroup. At the time of it's release in 2004 rock music was at an all time low and had gone underground. Velvet Revolver brought all my past bliss experience of 'real' rock music back to life and gave rock music a bit of life to say the least. Styled with a vague sleazy controversal edge (which I love!) Sucker Train Blues contains some classic guitar riffs ... Read the complete review

When I was a lot younger, about 12 years younger to be precise I was just starting to get into music. I came across this band who on the same day had released two albums. I bought the blue one and within a month I was completely taken with Guns ‘N’ Roses. I was about 10 at the time and was really discovering music and Use Your Illusions 2 was the first album I bought. I was quite disappointed when GNR split up as it seemed to be a real shame. Now fast forward to this year and three members of GNR are back in a different guise. While Axl still clings onto the name Slash, Duff and Matt Sorum have teamed up with the former Stone Temple Pilots front man Scott ... Read the complete review

Guns ‘N’ Roses, eh? Discuss. For a spell some 15 years ago, they were the biggest band going, filling stadia worldwide with millions of adoring fans and selling millions of copies of everything they produced. For me personally, they will always retain a place in my memory as the first gig I ever went was one by G ’N’ R, at Wembley Stadium. Like many acts of that era, they were a volatile grouping, with one member leaving before they ever released a record and the line up changing several times even while they were at their best. In recent years, however, Guns ‘n’ Roses have largely vanished. One huge line up change saw singer Axl Rose retain the Guns ‘N’ ... Read the complete review

I think it?s time I dealt with a blast of music again! My latest CD to remain glued into my CD player is Velvet Revolvers ?Contraband?, and it?s really rather jolly good to coin a little-used rock phrase ;o) Velvet Revolver consist of three former members of Guns ?N? Roses ? Slash (he of the wild hair and top hat)on guitar, Matt Sorum on drums and Duff McKagan on bass ? Dave Kushner of Jane?s Addiction connections also on guitar and the rather wonderful, utterly gorgeous (biased? Me?) Scott Weiland, former lead singer of the Stone Temple Pilots and solo artist. So that?s some pedigree for this band to live up to! They succeed with ease although it has to be ... Read the complete review

**Introduction** As a fan of Guns and Roses I was very pleased to hear a couple of years ago about a new group consisting of key members from the group. Slash and Duff are joined by one time Guns and Roses drummer Matt Sorum and Stone Temple Pilots lead singer Scott Weiland and not forgetting Dave Kushner taking the role of the band's Izzy Stradlin. The band of course are called Velvet Revolver and released this album in 2004. After just two albums together things took an unexpected or expected turn whichever way you look at it when lead singer Scott Weiland was kicked out of the group after a huge falling out whilst on tour, I saw the band at ... Area 54 - Apocrypha
Distinctive heavy metal with a strong bass presence and great vocals.
Oddly, perhaps too great a variety.
Diabolic Serenades - Ancient Rites
A great early black metal sound, with great vocals and guitars.
Mechanical drumming is distracting.
Medicine For The Melacholic - Insofar
An energetic and exciting eight tracks of rock.
The poor production detracts heavily away from the overall quality of the release.
Horrorscope - Chinchilla
Urdo Gerstenmeyer is a good guitarist, not that he'll let you hear that.
Bland and samey power metal of the less exciting kind.

Fairly decent grindcore E.P.
That's all there is to it.
