Disadvantages: Absolutely none
~~Introduction~~
This album is simply phenomenal. I can't speak too highly of it. The simple and laid-back yet incredibly catchy mood of it just puts me in a good mood every time I listen to it, which I have done more than any other album in my collection.
There is a slightly jazzy feel mixed in with the indie and rock, and the Fratellis have not done anything wrong. I can say that there is not a single let down in the album, and I can't think of anyone who wouldn't like it.
~~The Individual Songs~~
Henrietta - 9/10 - sets the mood for the rest of the album; upbeat, bouncy and impressively rhythmic, this song has me rocking in time listening to it again.
Flathead - 9.5/10 - slightly less upbeat, Flathead is no less bouncy, and shows a hint of aggression, which comes and goes throughout the song. The chorus, comprising of simple "ba"s will stay with you for the rest of the day if not the rest of the week. Unless you listen to the rest of the album!
Cuntry Boys & City Girls - 9/10 - starts slower and quieter than most of the others, with short bursts of sudden aggression in the chorus. The lyrics are easy to listen to and memorize. One of my favourites.
Whistle for the Choir - 9/10 - slow, acoustic track that is much more melancholy than the rest of the album. Shows that they can do other styles.
Chelsea Dagger - 8.5/10 - Excellent track; the single that made the album famous. Not the best in my opinion, but close to. Atmospheric feel, and brilliantly tuneful.
For the Girl - 10/10 - Definitely one of the best tracks on the album in my opinion. It makes feel happy whenever I listen to it. Simple, fast, and with memorable lyrics, you can't go wrong.
Doginabag - 7/10 - The weakest track on the album, but still makes a good listen. Melancholy yet slightly dreary, without the sweetness that makes "Whistle for the Choir" so good.
Creepin Up the Backstairs - 9/10 - Another track completely typical of the album and of the Fratellis. Pacy and dramatic, this is another single that stuck in the charts for a long time.
Vince the Lovable Stoner - 8.5/10 - Slightly slower and more laid back than most of the others, with amusing lyrics about "Vince". Lively without being bouncy, this is something different and fun.
Everybody Knows You Cried Last Night - 10/10Great song with a slower beat but lively guitar and drums. One guitar plays on the offbeat, which gives it a swinging feel. Another of my favourites.
Baby Fratelli - 8.5/10 - Almost too lively and bouncy, even on this album. It starts off loud and fast and slow down only once, and briefly, throughout the song. Leaves you positively invigorated!
Got Ma Nuts From A Hippy - 8.5/10 - One of the weaker song. That is to say, one of the less exceptional songs. Not quite as original as the others, but still catchy and a good song.
Ole Black 'n' Blue Eyes - 9/10 - Another of the slower tracks, this has a kind of dreamy feel to it which is very different to the hard, distinct mood of the rest of the album.
~~Conclusion~~
A simply incredible album, massive respect to the Fratellis for being wonderful performers as well as having some truly brilliant music to perform.
Summary: You can't go wrong with this album, be it as a present for someone else or for your own use.
