Advantages: All killer, no filler

Disadvantages: Nothing, nothing at all.

I can't believe I haven't written a review about this album. It's an amazing album, I listen to it constantly, been to see the Fratellis twice over the last year and they were amazing each time.

The Fratellis are an Indie/Rock band from Scotland made up of 3 main members all of whom have adopted the surname Fratelli. The drummer is Mince Fratelli (who shares my birthday, which is also the date I saw them this year, amazing coincidence), the bassist is Barry Fratelli and Jon is the lead singer/guitarist.

Ok, onto the album, Costello Music was released almost 2 years ago and surprised most by making it to number 2 in the UK charts, there's 5 singles spawned from the album and that's where we start...

Track 1 - Henrietta. A fast paced track to start off and what was the debut single. There's the odd gap with just lyrics but these are quickly followed with drums and guitar kicking in, with the odd bit of incomprehensible lyrics chucked in for good measure. There is a lot of comprehensible lyrics too, which becomes a trait of many of their songs. There's also a story going on which in this song seems to be about a stalker 8.5/10

Track 2 - Flathead. This is another fast song (4th single), this time about a vicious lady, a bit crazy. Listening to it live is great but often the music can take over the lyrics and drown it out. There's a lot going on at any one time, but luckily on the album is mix is spot on. The chorus is great for singing incomprehensibly to at concerts. - 8/10

Track 3 - Country Boys & City Girls - (i've not spelt the title of this track right on purpose, before anyone comments about it). Another load of lyrics to get through in 3 and a half minutes, doesn't make a lot of sense, but who cares. It's a great song and if you're not having a good time listening to the album then you're not listening to the right album. Great brass work (not the tree rubbing variety) in this song. 8/5/10

Track 4 - Whistle for the choir (2nd single). Another great song obviously and another great singalong, especially the choruses. This is a bit slower, more of a rocking side to side motion rather than the previous jumping around. Also a nice whistling section near the end. 9/10

Track 5 - Chelsea Dagger, has one of the most recognisable starts and is at it from the outset. The crowd love this at concerts especially the do do do bits. Really brilliant song and a great one to sing along to. 10/10

Track 6 - For the Girl is another good song, another upbeat song, and another song about a lady. I'm sensing a pattern here. Each song tells a story and this seems to be about young love with a bit of violence and drugs thrown in for good measure. 8/10

Track 7 - Doginabag, clearly is about something however my brain has hit a big black hole and i can't for the life of me work it out. However there's some good guitar work, some nice cymbal action and another great song, so there. 8/10

Track 8 - Creeping up the backstairs is a great but fairly hurried song, cleverly made so each chorus starts quiet with the "creeping up the backstairs" line but then gets rapidly louder. All about sneaking around doing stuff you probably shouldn't be. 8/10

Track 9 - Vince the Loveable Stoner, clearly is about what it says. A really happy sounding track despite the lyrics which are great but just not about a happy subject... 8/10

Track 10 - Everybody knows you cried last night seems to be about a girl who's had a hard life (read into that what you will), it's another great song, with a great recognisable intro to it that repeats reguarly throughout, another great audience participation song that gets them all up jumping and dancing. 8.5/10

Track 11 - Baby Fratelli is my favourite track of last year by a country mile. Why do I like it, it just really gets me up if I'm feeling down, it makes me feel happy, it gets me rocking, it's just great. 10/10

Track 12 - Got ma nuts from a hippie needs to be on Guitar Hero 4, some great solo parts to it, another quick song with loads of energy, even the quiet parts feel fast. The drumming as always is immense and when I saw them live recently there was a small tantrum thrown by the drummer at the end in an explosion of andrenalin. 8/10

Track 13 - Last track is Ole Black N Blue Eyes - Another story being told as is the theme throughout and of course it's about a lady. A song you'll find yourself singing along to without realising. Brilliant 9/10.

If I could give an album 6 stars then I would. I love the Fratellis. With their new album now out, hopefully they can rule the world for a while to come yet!

Summary: Dance yourself silly
