Advantages: Decent voice, some funky tunes
Disadvantages: Hardwork to get through in one go!
Don Fardon's 2006 best of album "Coventry Boy" came on the back of George Best's death when he re-released the song "Belfast Boy", the record company clearly saw it as a good time to get out a compilation.
I wasn't familiar with Don Fardon until recently, in fact it was the cover of John D. Loudermilk's "Indian Reservation" that brought me into contact with the artist. Don has a solid voice and before he was a solo artist sang as the lead singer of The Sorrows. This album contains work from both eras but few of the songs seem to be originals and there's some pretty well known cover songs thrown in which despite being done well - give me a sort of pub singer sensation.
Due to the lack of original material, I get a feeling that he preceeded the type of singer that might appear today on a talent contest show, he's definitely a pretty talented singer though and is well suited to a souly sort of pop that is best backed up with a simple disco track. This album isn't going to set the world alight but with 50 songs over 2 discs, if you do happen to be a fan of Don Fardon - you are certainly getting your money's worth.
With the songs being pop and my tastes being a bit more varied, I'm not sure if I'd be able to listen to it all at once, so far I've not been able to get through a whole disc at once and prefer to listen to the odd song thrown in on shuffle.
