Now That's What I Call Music! 59

Premium Review Mix and match of good and bad (424 words)
by pmcds - written on 06/02/09 (Very useful, 27 readings)
Rating:

Now 59 is the last of three Now That's What I Call Music compilations to be released in 2004. It features a lot of the chart music betweent he end of the summer and the beginning of November of that year, a lot of which is good and reminds me of some good times. There are a few tracks I'm not too enamoured with, but I find that often happens with compilation albums with me. The compilation follows a normal trend whereby the majority of the tracks on the first disc are more poppy chart tracks, while the second disc features more RnB and dance hits. The first disc has 21 tracks. It starts off with Blue's Curtain Falls, which I wasn't particularly a fan of, but I did like the next ...

Now That's What I Call Music! 59

Premium Review A dissapointment (193 words)
by mousedadrummer - written on 06/08/09 (Useful, 9 readings)

The Now! Series of albums has been around since 1983 and were one of the first big compilation albums and first albums to be released on two discs. Now Thats What I Call Music 59 was released in late 2004 and is filled with 43 songs from that time that do take you back those 5 years! I do think however that this album is quite dissapointing. The Now! series of compilation albums were meant to have an edge on the competition because of the deal between the "big four" record labels, allowing them to have mostly big hits. As I'm looking at the track list now though, I cant seem to find any songs that I would have really classed as big hits. There are a few popular songs, such as Lets ...

song, well worth listening to! "Sweet like chocolate, boy!" That is just some of the amazing tracks on this album! They are all very different which just shows how varied they are; there is bound to be something on here which you will like! The CD is not really available in shops now, but you can buy it from Various sources online It is priced at just 1p (!) on AMazin.co.uk just now, and bagging a bargain on eBay is possible too! This is an amazing CD and well worth having in your collection! Amy ...

Pretty interesting album, some good reggae It's not the cheapest album

Amazing songs, lyrics, instrumentals, eclectic stuff So what if you won't understand every word - just sit back and enjoy !

great selection, good variety, somewhat mis-titled, mostly traditional stuff, no surprises

Great Guitar Playing and Interpretation of American Classics Vocals occasionally a bit dodgy

Still some very good songs Too much rap and dance thrown in

May have been rare at the time of their conception Competition is too tough now

Stranger - Ambitions
Some powerful vocals, excellent instrumental work, strong production values. A lot of the time the vocal performance lacks passion.

Suede - Suede
Energetic, sexy, vivacious, depressive, unique and interesting at the same time The ballads can be slightly annoying and formulaic

Sweat - Nelly
A few club bangers Old problems come through here again

Sweat Suit - Nelly
A few big tunes Inconsistent

Swords And Diamonds - Cryonic Temple
Perfect imitation heavy metal. No ideas of its own.

Synthetic Division - Crossbreed
Balanced fusion of industrial and rock elements. All been heard before.

Take No Prisoners - Chinchilla
Greater band performance. Still falls in the face of competition.

Take Offs And Landings - Rilo Kiley
Jenny Lewis, the indie-sounds of a band learning the ropes of music Meandering feel, no real 'kick' songs

Telemission - Durango Riot
The music is extremely energetic and fun. The best I feel is yet to come.

Terra - Cronian
Side helping for fans of modern Borknagar, with good vocals and guitar. Less impressive than the primary band.
