... Erasure have such a strong brand identity (band identity?) since from the cover alone you'd think you were getting a disc full of strangled warblings by some MySpace wannabe. On, with some relief, to the music itself, and it's fair to say that what you'll find here is mostly good. The opening track, "Rain", is rather dull for most of its run and never quite seems to get going; it's very vaguely reminiscent of Erasure's 1988 classic hit "A Little Respect" - though despite its, exalted status th...more

Crowned Review Cowboy - Erasure: Full of Western promise (1023 words)
by - written on 24/11/09 (Very useful, 66 readings)
Rating:

For many years I was convinced that I didn't like Erasure, perhaps due to the influence of the music Vince Clarke wrote for the Top of the Pops titles, a piece that irritates me to this day. A few years ago, however, a friend sent me some of the band's music and asked me at least to give it a listen. Not all of it stuck, but enough did to persuade me that Erasure were worth another look, and since then I've come to like quite a bit of their music, though (perhaps somewhat unfashionably) I prefer their later output to the music that stormed the charts in earlier days. The band's 1997 album Cowboy sits in that zone between Erasure's smash hit albums of the late ...  Read the complete review

Well, I have to start by saying that I have always been a BIG Erasure fan. I don't agree with those that say that you must be gay to enjoy their music. In my opinion, their sexual preferences should have no influence over the decision to like their easy listening pop treats. I must admit to believing that this may not be their best effort, but it still contains some very noteworthy songs. It doesn't delve into the realms of trance experimentalism that ventured on the previous album "Erasure". So, let's get reviewing... ----Rain---- The opener is a classic slice of Erasure pop, with a bopping bass track and various ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Cowboy - Erasure: A paradox in extreme (534 words)
by - written on 05/09/05 (Useful, 80 readings)
Rating:

Erasure have been in existence for over fifteen years , with their particular musical genre being synth-pop/dance. They are made up of Andy Bell ( vocals ) and Vince Clarke ( synths. ) , and throughout their career , have always delivered highly crafted and imaginative albums . This album was released as a downturn in fan support began ( as all groups eventually encounter ) and at a time that their melodic synth-pop sound began to alter into a more techno dance sound ( which fans simply did not commit to ) . However they still have a huge and loyal fan base . Their eleventh album 'Other Peoples Songs' was released in January 2003 , followed in Feb.05 ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review cowboy indeed (156 words)
by - written on 22/01/09 (Somewhat useful, 13 readings)
Rating:

Sadly not one of their finer moments, this album tended to fall by the wayside and did not get that much attention. But as always with Erasure there are some staple track which are dependable. Don't Say Your Love Is Killing Me is a soaring piece of pop music which will lift any dampened spirits and In My Arms is a moving and emotive track which will raise the blood pressure a notch or two. I was once again upset at the cover artwork which left a little to be desired, it was not what I had been hoping for, they lads seem to avoid putting their photos on the cover which is such a shame when they are both so handsome. Nonetheless, this album does contain a few feisty ...  Read the complete review

Great tunes, good mixing, nice sequencing. Shame the "Clubber's Guide"s have gone down in quality.

Very little to be honest. "Movin too fast" thats about it!!! Craig David, Robbie Craig - Devil Music if you ask me

6 good pop tracks 4 average / below average pop tracks

Everything Elliott Smith has done is good. Start with the later albums, if you love them, work backwards.

All the hits together on one album A couple of weaker singles

A strong, consistent album Sixty Five Thousand is a tad lame

Intense jazz-rock-metal-prog-fusion, a CD to drink with caution Will sound like a complete mess on the first listen

Original Pretty much average throughout

Daudi Baldrs - Burzum
Some nice ideas, would make a fair (early) video game soundtrack. Incomplete ideas is all that they are.

Burzum - Burzum
Highly enjoyable black metal from a supremely talented one-man-band. Low production values and shrieking vocals will put off casual listeners.

Amputechture - The Mars Volta
Fuses rock, metal, jazz and latin music into eight songs of breath-taking madness Requires work. Not for the musically faint hearted.

The Cool - Lupe Fiasco
A couple of good tunes No big single. Lots of poor tracks
