This really is the classic case of an album which you can put on and cheer up to very quickly. The tracks come tumbling at you with a good beat and a very distinctive sound through the voice of Darius Rucker (no, not Hootie!) and it's all too rare these days that you get a voice so easily identifiable, yet matching the base music behind it perfectly to give such an uplifting result. The cheerful melodies ring vibrantly on this album and the ballads are soulful with a capital 'S'. Stick this one in the machine, sit back and transport yourself to good feelings. ... Who?? Well, that’s a fairly common reaction to this band over here. They have never really managed to break into the UK as they have done in the US (where they are a household name). Their musical style is rock music but more upbeat and bright. The sort of thing you can put on when you are feeling blue and it will cheer you up. “Cracked Rear View” is their successful debut album released back in 1994, selling twelve million copies worldwide.. I first heard about the band when they toured the UK two years ago. My then boss at the time asked me if I wanted to go see a band that was playing in Nottingham the following week. At the time I ... So you've met the girl of your dreams and your out to impress, well read on! First things first you're probably wondering what this has got to do with a Hootie and the blowfish cd? Be patient and all will become clear! Picture the scene, you've invited Ms.Dreamgirl back to yours, your disgusting flatmate has been bribed never to return home, (ok he's out till late then!), you've cleaned the flat, ( alien concept I know but trust me it helps!!), you've ditched your Man U duvet cover, ( but dont mention the fact you owned one in the first place). You now need to create an "atmosphere" so dim the lights, even light a few candles ( ... When I first heard of "hootie and the blowfish", I was like, "yeah right, they'll be good" in a sarcastic way of course... I was wrong to think this way! - the name may be strange, but the music certainly isn't. Songs like "let her cry", "hold my hand" and "goodbye" make me wonder why this band are not at the top of the charts! Deep vocals and amazing lyrics, this band is great. Everyone that I know, that likes hootie and the blowfish, have discovered them through word of mouth, from their friends etc... so this is me telling whoever feels like reading it - they are a great band, listen to their music sometime, ... "Cracked Rear View" is a great, fun album. Don't let some of the simple and sometimes slow tunes fool you - these songs are infectious and are ones you won't forget in a hurry. Hootie and the Blowfish does make ideal car music - preferrably with fun loving passengers who like Hootie too. Dig out your deep voice, lean back and sing along with songs like "Hold My Hand" and "Only Wanna Be With You". Personally I'm inclined to say that the opening track, "Hannah Jane" is my favourite. This is because it is a great song for a group of people to sing along with, get the backing vocals going and put a smile ... Read the complete review
