Achtung Bono - Half Man Half Biscuit

Rating:
Achtung Bono, the latest release from Half Man Half Biscuit , (HMHB), was released in September last year and dedicated to the memory of John Peel, who regularly championed the band and once said that when he died he d like to be buried with them. I probably wouldn t be thanked for saying this,or so a newspaper interview with Nigel Blackwell, HMHB s frontman would suggest; "He, (John Peel), never had favourite songs or favourite albums or bands particularly (yes, if pushed he would say that Teenage Kicks was perfect - he was correct of course) and he would wince when asked, for instance, to name his Top Ten of anything - he got enthusiastic about a record at ...

Rating:
was all my Dad would listen to and it filtered down to me, and I love it now just as much as he did then. This CD is not only Half Man Half Biscuit s first proper album, but it also includes their debut EP. Ok then, so it sounds like it was recorded in a dustbin and they may not be the finest musicians in the world, but that is part of the band s appeal. The thing that makes this band special and that kept this album at the top of the Indie charts in 1986 is Nigel Blackwell s lyrics. All based on pop culture, the monotony of everyday life, TV, childhood memories and keen observations. Although this album is EXTREMELY funny, it s not one of those joke records, where once ...

It s twenty one years since the quaintly whimsical Merseyside band Half Man Half Biscuit , whom I shall from now on refer to as HMHB, released their debut album - Back in the DHSS. The title refers to a ditty by that slightly more well known Liverpool band The Beatles. For the information of readers under the age of thirty and those who have never hit hard times, the DHSS used to be the place to go and sign on the dole, (now known as jobseekers allowance), which has gone through a few attempted image revamps and name changes since then. Unlike the first release which was on vinyl and cassette, the CD contains tracks from the Trumpton Riots 7" and E.P. and the Dickie ...

Thankful - Mary Mary
Excellent debut CD
Not to everyones taste
Songs For You, Truths For Me - James Morrison
Great vocals, great lyrics
Some weak tracks.
Stunt - Barenaked Ladies
A fantastic band and a brilliant album!
Not everyone will like every track.
Right Of Passage - Martin Carthy
Folk - English Folk - 1995
Return To Splendor - The King
Sing-along, spans a few generations, not an Elvis impersonation
If you didn't like the original Elvis style it's not for you and a few Elvis purists might not like the idea
Wild Frontier - Gary Moore
celtic rock fusion, intelligent and imaginative
not the blues that hes known for.
Louder Than Words - Lionel Richie
R&B & Soul - Pop R&B - 1996
Innocent Eyes - Delta Goodrem
Beautifully written and performed songs
The lack of uptempo tracks might put some people off
Higher Ground - Barbra Streisand
Easy Listening - 1997
Concrete And Udder Chaos - Graveltrap
An energetic and exciting album of pop heavy punk rock music.
Don't be silly.
