      Amazing lyrics, good compilation

Curtain Call: The Hits was released in 2005 by the American rapper, Eminem. It features what he calls his 'greatest hits' until 2005 and includes four new tracks as well.

The cover art for this is what appears the be the curtain of a stage and a man in a suit in front of it, with "Eminem, Curtain Call" written over it.

The tracklisting for this album is as follows:
      1 Intro/ Eminem/ Curtain Call
      2 FACK
      3 The Way I Am
      4 My Name Is
      5 Stan - Eminem, Dido
      6 Lose Yourself
7 Shake That - Eminem, Nate Dogg
      8 Sing For The Moment
      9 Without Me
      10 Like Toy Soldiers
      11 The Real Slim Shady
      12 Mockingbird
13 Guilty Conscience - Eminem, Dr. Dre
      14 Cleanin' Out My Closet
      15 Just Lose It
      16 When I'm Gone
17 Stan - Eminem, Elton John

From this album, I would have to say that my favourites are Stan, Like Toy Soldiers, Mockingbird and When I'm Gone.

Stan (originally from The Marshall Mathers LP) tells the story of a couple who seem to be poor and don't have a whole lot in life. Stan is a huge fan of Eminem (well, Slim Shady, to be specific) and he's writing letters to him and such, although to begin with there is no response and this prompts Stan to kill himself, and his pregnant wife (who is 'played' by Dido). I think this song paints a somewhat sad but realistic picture of life for people like this. As a child, I could understand the lyrics more than anything. I experienced a lot of the things in this track and that sort of helped me, I guess. I listened to this before it was on this album, when it was still just on the Marshall Mathers LP but I think this track is one of the best ones Eminem has ever written. I like the input from Dido as well. I think the fact that it has two such different personalities in it makes the song seem much better. It's almost like it's showing two portrayals of the same story. The way that the song ends shows the way that people just ignore things until it's too late and again, I know what that can be like. So I can associate with the song so I think that might be why I like it so much. I like the sound effects used in the background which aren't really part of the song but more a part of the story. They help you to visualise what is happening to the three characters.

Like Toy Soldiers is a song about battles and such between rival groups of people and again, I can understand this song. In the school I used to go to, if you weren't one of the popular kids, you were nothing. The teachers would even treat you like a piece of dirt on their shoe or something, just for not being popular. Just for not being in the 'in' group. And it was somewhat like a war in that place. In this track, Eminem is talking about how he's just going to 'be the bigger man' and let it go. I think this is sort of what inspired me not to fight back any more. I didn't want to 'have someone else's coffin rest on my conscience' as Eminem puts it. I think the lyrics in most of his songs are extremely well thought out, even if they may seem depressing to a lot of people, they can help a lot of people get through the bad things in life as well.

Mockingbird is another song like this, something that I can associate with. I must admit my life has never been easy. My parents divorced and I ended up with a step family that hated me and weren't overly nice to me. I don't want to go into details about it but this was another thing that Eminem's lyrics helped me to get through. I would sit up crying all night just listening to things like Eminem to make me want to keep going. I had forgotten just how much these songs helped me get through those times actually. The way Eminem counts Laney as his daughter makes me smile, but at the same time, it almost makes me wish I had a father like that, whether he was a real one or not. My father would rather go to jail than pay the maintenance money to look after me and we're really struggling just to survive, which is why I write these reviews. The way Eminem talks about his job being to provide food for Hailie and Laney reminds me of this situation.

When I'm Gone is a sad song focussing on the idea of when a person close to you isn't there any more. I lost someone that I was very close to and this song sort of reminds me of them. They liked Eminem and the chorus always makes me think of them. However, I think the main idea of the song is that someone is never really gone and that life just sort of passes you by. And I can understand that. I tend to think of the future and never focus on the present much. I think the way that this song ends with it all being a dream to make him realise he needs to be around his family more is a good way of ending it because it shows that you can change if you need to, you may just need a little prompting.

Eminem's lyrics are always so realistic that I think that the way life is for those who haven't always had things the way they wanted them to be often seems almost unbelievable. However, this is just how it is for those who don't have anything.

Overall, I think that this album is a very good one because it has a few really good songs on it that mean a lot to me in one way or another. I had forgotten how much I liked this album until I listened to it again last night and I thought I should write a review on it.

Only three songs that made it. I would recommend to a friend to download it off the net.

Curtain Call: The Hits [PA] by Eminem

So this is suppose to have been is so-called greatest hits album as well as a farewell album. Guess he must be taking the same farewell crap Brett Favre is. So now what, is it his third comeback. He was suppose to walk after Relapse and then after Encore. So with Recovery out and with help from Rapfan I'm going to explore the deeper parts of the rap world of Marshall Mathers. I have eleven cd's here all by Eminem and I'm getting one by this weekend that might surprise you.

But exploring Curtain Call was both funny and traumatic. To how you would say it "to feel" every song became disturbing right from jump street with both the Intro and Fack. I think putting Fack as your opening song still abruptly shows that Eminem needs to grow the Fack Up!!! I mean why even put it there on your so-called greatest hits. My favorites on this album were Shake That, Like Toy Soldiers, Without Me.

I can see by my peers why his negative ranting gets old after a while. Yes, he had a bad childhood a lot of us did. Growing up is about learning, but how can we learn or take anything away with us from these albums if they are only about destruction and pain. Eminem your going on 38 it's time to forgive. We can never forget, but there has to be somethings in your life that can make excellent songs. True almost 80 percent of rap songs have four things prevalent in them, sex, violence, money, and drugs.

With all this being said, it's really sad that rappers love voicing their opinions of their street life in song. It's no different the than Johnny Redneck lost his favorite girl by him sucking down too many Budwiser's while he was watching Nascar and he beat her up. Songs are the stories of our lives and Eminem i'm sorry yours was so tragic.

        1. Intro (Curtain Call) (So stupid it doesn't deserve recognition)

2.FACK( Zero stars) Just a disgusting song about sex. Wanting 3 way sex and blurting out he going to orgasm. The lyrics are so perverted with such a immature voice. What are his antics with the gerbil, was that slang pitch to Richard Gere or what ? With a screaming background chorus brings the perversion from the lyric me so horny to actually making me go limp and want to pull the cd out.

        3. The Way I Am( 3 stars) How he has to shut himself and family off from this world. How it's a tragedy the media won't let him just live. The way how he lives and dresses calling him a homey wanna-be. Not being able to get any peace. How even your fellow musicians put you down cause of your history in the game of life. Crying shame when you can't even go out your front door and be choked by the world outside it.

        4. My Name Is( 2 stars)This is where Slim Shady's Alter Ego begins. Putting people down, grotesque materials and laughing that his mom did more drugs than him. Ticky Ticky is the start of a flamboyant career of him thinking he could even get close to a Spice Girl or smack Pam's breasts off..Very immature song.

        5. Stan feat. Dido(4 1/2 Stars) It's very true how stars become distant because everyone wants to be up your behind. They really don't know how some Stan's truly breathe everything, say everything about them night and day. I've seen it with people I know, like one has a infatuation with Carmen Electra. It's so true there are a lot of Stans out there and why no matter how big you are having your own security is a must. Stans just don't realize when their people are very popular they go through so much in one day that a normal person is like about a week. Nice background to this sound and the lyrics couldn't be more truer.

        6. Lose it (4 Stars) Cranking start to this song. Getting in your face lyrics. Lose yourself in the music. Live for the moment. Live each day as you wake up to be one day shorter left in your life. You only get one shot and don't play cause it's not a game. It's from the pain inside, we still have to live each realistic moment God gives us. We can't let ourselves down because the world will swallow us up and throw us in the toilet. Success is the option failure is not. A excellent back beat to keep the sound bouncing.

        7. Shake That feat. Nate Dogg( 5 stars) Great bass and beat. Even the lyrics couldn't have been better. Nate Dogg makes this song with his low bass voice. From the start thumbs sticking in the chest elbows out and head and shoulders in and out. You just start strutting when it starts. There ain't no play in this song. It's all about getting some serious booty. The nastier the better Nate says.

        8. Sing For The Moment( 3 1/2 Stars) Little Aerosmith in this song of Dream On. A hateful song of violence between gangsters and that metal underneath your belt. How when the media over exposes you and get strangled by all the attention and pure jealousy develops between you and your competition. Then words get said and pistols speak louder than words.

        9. Without Me (6 stars) Top beat. Great lyrics even though some are petty. He gets his ego in gear here. The music is keeps you going and then the chorus kicks in and head bobbing begins. I think he's trying to proclaim he won the battle as the best white rapper out there. I mean, who is going to go up against Vanilla Ice. The comical rants in this song score big time to being one of his all time favorites.

        10. Like Toy Soldiers( 6 stars) All I've heard in the rap culture that rappers like starting feuds by the lyrics in their songs. From what happened to TuPac and to Biggie Smalls and a few others, why would someone make insult to injury when Em is singing about the bad things that happened between him and Kim with Hallie. But it is so true we do fall down like plastic soldiers. I just read the lyrics from a on-line source and I'm in awe for just for what he had to remember in this song. Verbal altercations between singers that can lead to murders and death. But as Em said and like my peers have always said it's better to walk away from a fight even though you know your right and the other party has done harm to you.

        11. The Real Slim Shady(5 1/2 stars) Ticky Ticky yeah..He is Slim Shady. One of his better beat songs that makes you want to get up. All the put down lyrics, from him killing Dre to Christina and Fred Durnst. May I have your attention please !!! It made him a millionaire, yes it was on after every other song on the radio and it got boring after a month. I had a friend that went to his concert and to watch thousands dancing practically all the same movements was hysterical. But that is his trait, to find something wrong with someone and be manipulative.

        12. Mockingbird(5 1/2 Stars) Shame it's not a dream Em. I always closed my eyes hoping my childhood would disappear, knowing my life would of been easier if my dad didn't smoke. Here I sit in front of this keyboard and a pack of Boro's right next to me with one in my mouth. Sure the kids had it bad and Kim flying off the wall not knowing what was going on. But there is only some much you can say and do, and all the I'm sorry's can't bring it back Em. Just seal it as "lessons learned"

        13. Guilty Conscience feat. Dr. Dre ( Zero Stars) Can you really call this a song. Coming up 3 different scenarios on how situations happen in life. Good angel on one shoulder and the evil angel on the other. I call this a take up space song, something to fill the null gap. At the end, they did come to terms on the cheaters, both should die.

        14. Cleanin' Out My Closet (2 stars) Sounds like a kinda off beat Mockingbird. To bring out his family and wish his father's death and watching mother dropping pill and living the pain of his trials and tribulations he had to go through as a kid in Detroit. Yeah I had a very hard life growing up in Chicago, I just don't think I could spatter that disaster in a song.

        15. Just Lose It (4 Stars) Revert back to the Slim Shady song (again). Good lyrics and stepping music and Em in the background yelling stupid chorus or was that back ground vocals with that gerbil still in him? Good dance song that will bring you out to the floor. The beat and bass are mixed well together specially at the end when you're still moving and the lyrics have ended. Just don't know why he has so many negative rants.

        16. When I'm Gone( 4 Stars) To me this song sounds like more of a death song than going to another gig. He see's his killer and it's him in the mirror. A very depressing song. Hallie screams mommy's wrists are cut and he's in bed and takes a gun to his head. Pop another pill to go to sleep tell the truth and keep it real. That head must have tons of pain.

        17. Stan ft. Elton John (Live)(5 stars) Just Elton being on the piano and background vocals made it alright. But like I said, if Stans could only know what stars go through. It's very sporadic when stars go out for their fans.

Overall If this was a greatest hits album he had much more variety to choose from. This is definitely a Stan's album.

        Mediocre introduction to Slim Shady

This Eminem compilation was released in 2005, and contains his top-selling 12 songs and four extra songs.

Greatest Hits CDs can be hit or miss, and this one is in the latter category. Most of Eminem's best songs weren't released as singles so instead of a true "Best Of" we simply get a compilation of Eminem songs that contain catchy choruses. "Like Toy Soldiers" and "Just Lose It" are probably his two worst singles, yet they are included ahead of such Eminem classics as "Just Don't Give A Fuck" and "Superman". Disappointedly for the die-hard fans who buy this CD despite having all of his albums already (eg. me), the three new songs rank as some of his poorest as well. "Fack" is an absolute embarrassment of a song, while "Shake That" is mediocre at best, despite the presence of the usually dependable Nate Dogg. "When I'm Gone is in the same sappy letter to my daughter format as "Mockingbird" except worst, featuring some disappointingly simple lyrics and an uninspired violin backing track.

There is however, one song that will convince the Eminem die-hards to part with their hard-earned cash. The bonus track is a live version of "Stan", recorded at the Grammys and featuring music legend Elton John. It manages to improve on an already brilliant original (which is included here also) with amazing live instrumentation, complimenting the frantic nature of the song as Eminem really shows his emotions, telling the story of a crazed fan that comes to a tragic fan. This song ups the rating of this compilation of one star on its own.

Some of the songs are well able to stand up on their own: "Cleaning Out My Closet", "My Name Is" and "Way I Am" all stand out. The anthem "Lose Yourself is handily included, seeing as it doesn't feature on any of Eminem's albums.

While this CD contains some great songs, as a representation of Eminem's best material it is a disappointment. Apart from the live version of "Stan", I would advise Eminem Stans to stay well away, as this compilation is only necessary for the most casual Eminem fan.

          Goods for fans of Eminem!

I usually don't listen to rap music, but for some reason I like Eminem, he truly is a genius rapper. His alter ego Slim Shady I'm not so fond off with some rather silly songs and videos accompanying them. This CD is the greatest hits of Eminem and features seventeen tracks, one of them is a bonus track with a duet of Stan with Elton John. It is through some of these songs that Eminem sings about some emotional stuff but its balanced with songs such as without me.

My favourite songs off this album are

          (5) Stan, this is a duet with Dido, such a sad song, it's about a fan of Eminem who writes to him and doesn't get a reply and it ends in tragedy with the guy killing himself. Even though it is sad its one of the best songs off the album.

(6)Lose yourself, definitely my favourite song off the whole album; I love the chorus off this album, it's a well written song.

          (8) Sing for the moment, another classic, definitely one of my favourites of his, the chorus is brilliant.

          (9) Without me, this was the first Eminem song I ever heard, it's not a serious song as the video shows but its one of the better "funny" songs.

The duet with Elton John is also a brilliant track.

            a great rap album

Curtain call was released in 2005 and was Eminems fifth album. It was basically a greatest hits album for him however calling it curtain call he was kind of saying that he probably wouldn't make another album again. It did look like this as well as he didn't release anything for a long time but his new album is now coming out very soon.

            1.Intro (Curtain Call)
            2.FACK
            3.The Way I Am
            4.My Name Is
            5.Stan
            6.Lose Yourself
            7.Shake That
            8.Sing For The Moment
            9.Without Me
            10.Like Toy Soldiers
            11.The Real Slim Shady
            12.Mockingbird
            13.Guilty Conscience
            14.Cleanin' Out My Closet
            15.Just Lose It
            16.When I'm Gone
            17.Stan (Live w/ Elton John)

The album starts off with the intro, not sure what this is about, it sounds like its recorded at a show and its only about 30 seconds long.
So its not until the second song that the album really kicks off, FACK is an alright song though its not one of my favourites from eminem, however it does have some really good rapping in it, but perhaps a bit silly lyrics and quite rude.

The way I am is one of my favourites off the whole album, I think its got a great tune behind it as well as some great rapping and a great chorus too.

Stan is also another great song, and was one of the first songs I ever heard from eminem. The album actually have two versions of the song, one which features dido singing and the other which was recorded from his live performance with eminem at a award show. I think I prefer the dido version myself however they are both really good.

Track number twelve is another good one, mocking bird is a song that is about eminems relationship with his daughter and he doesn't hold back, which I think is what makes his lyrics, and his songs so good.

Cleaning out my closet is also another of my favourite songs off the album, its about eminems relationship with his mum, and his whole family too. He certainly doesn't hold back in these lyrics and it makes good listening.

If you're a fan of eminem then this is a good album, its got all of his best songs on one CD, however if you're an eminem fanatic then you will probably have all of his other Cds any way and then this would probably be useless so its more of an album for people who quite like eminem and want to listen to some of his songs again.

EMINEMs Greatest Hits......For all you hip hop heads

EMINEM - Curtain Call. And so for his 5th mainstream album we are given a selection of slim shadys greatest hits from classics like My Name is and Guilty Conscience up to the more recent and brilliant When im Gone. So how does it fair up....

As with previous albums we are treated to a rather amusing intro, showing that EMINEM hasnt lost his humerous side just yet. Things are looking good at this point, a familiar start to therefore what should be a great album.. and it is, with the exception of track number 2. FACK! I honestly have no idea what he was thinking when he produced and wrote this crap but it has to be his worst song to date. It is an explicit and vulgar attempt to make the subject of sex humerous.. and in someways it does. However compared to the lyrical genius and style of tracks like Lose yourself, Like Toy Soldiers etc its is simply awful. This album is meant to represent EMINEMS greatest hits...so wt the hell is this rubbish doing there. One thing is for certain though, dnt play this track in front of the young ones, or older generation for that matter.

The other new track to make an appearance is Shake That ft Nate Dogg. Again this is not up to the same high standard as other tracks which feature on the album, but it does come across as a good general party song and is a welcome change in comparison to the other deeper more emotional tracks.

Moving on from FACK and Shake That the album really begins to shine, the inspirational stan is one of the highlights, especially the special bonus track with the live performace including Elton John. Mockingbird also makes the cut, EMINEMS attempt at declaring his love for his daughter Halie in an emotional and moving track. Just lose it, though not quite a lyrical masterpiece, also features and does help to lighten the mood of the album and overall is generally a good hit...even if it was just because of the video :D. Other hits such as Sing for the Moment, The Real Slim Shady, Like Toy soldiers, Lose Yourself cant be beat and really show EMINEMS unique style which has made him such an iconic figure in the Hip/hop Community.

EMINEMs latest and final single When Im Gone in my opinion is one of his best tracks to date, and definitely finishes off the album with a bang. It really gives you an insight into his life, family and the reasons why he wants his career to end......all though this aint the case no more: EMINEM Presents The RE UP - December 5 2006

The artwork and sleeve insert is well produced and depicts a variety of images relating to EMINEMs career. The main front image is visually striking and really draws your attention to what is an outstanding album. Sadly the insert itself does not contain the entire lyircs however does provide all the usual track details you would expect.

Obviously being hip/hop and EMINEM the usual explicit language can be expected, however dont let this put you off. If you dont have any of his other albums then this is your best chance to sample the lyrics that made him one of the biggest selling rap artists of all time. And if you do own all his previous albums, you will buy it anyway :D

Curtain Call is available from all major music retailers as well as online for an aproximate price of £7.99. There is also a special edition available which includes Stans Mixtape - A small collection of EMINEMs personal favourite tracks, including some by D12 for £12.99

Despite FACK this is an essential purchase for any Hip/Hop fan or simply anyone with a good taste in music. The curtain maybe closing.... but his music lives on. (RIP PROOF)

                1. Intro:
Usually i think the intros on The rap albums are pointless but i find this one very funny if you want to laugh then this is worth listening to.

                2.Fack:
**NEW SONG** This is a song about sex but i think it is great. One of Eminems funny songs. i would rate it 8/10.

                3.The way i am
This is one of Eminems best songs i think his rapping in this is great. I would rate this 9/10

I don't really like this song but i think it had to go on this album because it was his first song and it was the one that made him famous. i would rate it 5/10

                5. Stan:
This song includes a chorus from Dido and it's a song that only a genius could think of. This song definitely is one of his greatest hits. 10/10

                6. Lose yourself:
This song was made for Eminems film 8 mile and i think it is great. Eminems rapping and rhyming in this song is great. 9/10

                7. Shake that
*NEW SONG** This is a new song that includes Nate Dogg i dont think this song is as good as some that Eminem has made. 6/10.

                8.Sing for the moment:
I would say this is definitely Eminems best song.
                I love it! 10/10

                9. Without me:
One of Eminems funny songs i don't think it is as good as his serious ones but it is quite funny. 7/10

                10. Like toy soldiers:
I never knew eminem could rap like this i think he beats any other rapper because in this song he is so great. 10/10.

                11. Real slim shady:
When this first came out ( A long time ago) I used to like it but it does start to get annoying after a while i don't think it is one of Eminems greatest hits. 4/10

                12.Mockingbird
A song about his daughters. One of the best songs from his Encore album so it definitely should be on this album. 9/10.

                13. Guilty conscience:
Well...... Dr Dre is a great rapper and so is Eminem so if you put them both together you get this song which is great.9/10.

                14. Cleaning out my closet:
A song about Eminems mum which is great his rapping is good and the chorus is great as well. 9/10

                15. Just lose it
Eminems best funny song because it has rapping in it and it also has normal Eminem trying to be funny and he does in the chorus. 10/10.

                16. When i'm gone
**NEW SONG*** This song explains why Eminem is retiring and it is because he wants to soend some time with his daughter when you hear the song you will agree that retiring was the right thing to do. This song is excellent! Best on the album 10/10

                17. Stan live:
This is a live version of stan and instead of including Dido in the chorus it has Elton John. I prefer the one with Dido in it. 6/10.

Overall most of the songs on this album are excellent and definitely his greatest hits.

                  Advantages

                  Disadvantages

Some new material, probably won't be the last we hear from him... heard rumour about producing

If you've heard all of eminems albums, you've heard most of this one too. New tracks arn't the best i've heard, but i do like "Shake That" feat Nate Dogg. This is apparently the last Eminem album, and he has now retired due to being addicted to sleeping pills.

Enjoyed his earlier music, but he has suffered the last few years. He will always remain a household name, but i dont think he'll be remembered for most of his later tunes.

                  New singles: When i'm gone
                  Shake That (feat Nate Dogg)
Stan (Feat Elton John) live at Brits
The Most Shady (Feat Obie Trice)

Well, i'm not writing now until after Xmas... so ya'll have a good one!!!
