Advantages: Solid pop

Disadvantages: not popular in the uk

Not one of the more widely discussed Ace Of Base albums which is a shame, so let us have a look at what is on offer here.

Ace of Base are four swedes, comprising Jonas, Ulf, Jenny and Linn. Jenny and Linn share the vocals and the blokes do the production and keyboards. A bit like a modern day Abba.

'Unspeakable' is a sophisticated pop track with intelligent content and a very catchy chorus, there are some 'la la la' bits which will get stuck in your head and have you humming it all day. 'Beautiful Morning' is a refined and succulent treat, with uplifting lyrics. It is the kind of track which should be played to signify the start of something positive in your life. There is a lovely gospel choir towards the end of the song.

'Remember The Words' has a haunting intro, before it gets underway with a slick groove. It is hard to dance to, but will please fans of their earlier reggae tinged sound. The track has satisfying verses and some dodgy key changes!

The title song 'Da Capo' is heavy on the euro synths and benefits from a driving beat which makes it chart friendly. Some suspect gruff vocals from the guys spoil it, but the female vocals add some light into the song and it builds to a decent poppy chorus.

'Juvenile' is a smart and provoking track, with a downbeat air, but an addictive melody which makes it durable. Better than this is 'Wonderful Life' which has a glorious summery beat, which calls to mind Madonna's 'True Blue'. It is a cover version of the Black song, yet they put a good twist on it, which makes it more cheeful.

12 tracks on here and some lovely cover artwork complete a good little album package.

Summary: good stuff

I find Ace of Base very hit or miss - when they do something well it's excellent - the rest however can be dire.
