 ... elevates this beyond the ordinary. Brightness Falls was always one of my favourites and is one track the most obviously balanced somewhere between Fripp?s and Sylvian?s musical aesthetics. It has both Fripp?s harsh darkness and Sylvian?s clear, resonant vocals. The pairing of Robert Fripp and David Sylvian was always going to be something special. Fripp brilliant guitar work on Sylvian?s second and best solo album, Gone To Earth augured most favourably for an extended collaboration. The studio album Sylvian/Fripp released in 1993 (The First Day) was full of ambient soundscapes, Fripp?s grinding, crashing guitar salvos, Sylvian?s tremulous, vulnerable vocals and Trey Gunn?s funky grooves?
