Advantages: A great dance compilation with all the lastest tunes from the clubs, great value for money.
Disadvantages: Will date quite quickly, bit of a naff name really
Not enough dance compilation I hear you cry! To be honest that is the way that I feel every time that I turn on my tv and witness all the adverts or enter my local music store. There seems to be no end to the number of compilations, or their demand it seems. Let's face it, there are some benefits to purchasing a compilation cd. Firstly, they are a great way of saving money as you don't have to go to the expense of buying all the singles individually at £3.99 each. You get around 40 songs for approximately £15.99. Secondly, you don't have to keep fiddling around changing cd's, you can just lay back and enjoy an hour or so of the tunes you enjoy. Third, compilations are great for parties and when you entertain people as you can just let them play. They are also a great way to have lots of different tunes and get people up dancing. However, there are also some downsides to compilations on the whole which I should mention, considering balance is the key to any good opinion. Compilations can date very quickly, they may be the greatest thing one month, but when all the songs have left the charts and clubs and you have played it to death the chances are you will have to go and buy another one. I know that I have piles of compilations sitting on my shelf that are just gathering dust. Additionally, often there is one really good cd and then the other seems to have all the tracks you don't actually like and no-one else seems to either! So, yes there are many compilations and there is no doubt that they do have some benefits, as well as some disadvantages, but they seem to be a worthwhile investment as long as you get the right one. Yet there are so many of them, how on earth do you find which one of the 10 that are staring back at you from the shelf is the one to invest your money in. So, what makes "Dance Masters" a compilation cd worth buying? Fr
om the name "Dance Masters", I think you could be forgive for thinking that the cd is likely to appeal to the 13 year old cheesy chart listener and I picked the cd up with great scepticism, however it appears not!Even me who spends a lot of time in clubs, reads the likes of Mix Mag and believes that I have a little insight into the dance world decided to hand over my £15.99 (oh, minus the student discount). Dance Masters consists of 40 of the latest dance tracks or as it says, "40 of the coolest club cuts".Some of the biggest labels in the dance world have given over their tracks for inclusion on the cd, these include for example, The Ministry of Sound, BMG, EMI, Positiva, Xtravaganza and XL. Over 2 cd's you are presented with some of the best dance tunes of 2001 so far, including, the Number one single by Rui da Silva, featuring Cassandra, "Touch me"; Fragma,"Every time you need me"; Santos, "Camels"; ATB, "Fields of Love"; Darude, "Feel the Beat" and Amira, "My desire". I actually bought 2 cd's at the same time, the Dance Masters cd and the latest one from the Ministry of Sound and to be honest I have got much more use out of the Dance Masters cd, which seems much fresher and I like the sequence of tracks better. There is also a different feel to both of the cd's. So, yes dodgy name and I expect we will be getting "Dance Masters II" sometime later this year, although to be honest I don't really mind, after all what's in a name, as long as the music is good!

- 23/02/01 Yes, compilations can become out of date so quickly but they're always good fun while they last. |
