Advantages: funk/soul/rock-tastic! As good today as it ever was.

Disadvantages: None, it's groovy baby

I LOVE Sly & The Family Stone. When I was a kid I thought they were all related, however only Sly Stone and Freddie Stone are, as brothers. Cynthia Robinson was their trumpeter, Jerry Martini on Saxophone, Greg Errico on drums, and Larry Graham on bass, although Sly and Freddie's sister Rose joined later.

The group had been around since the mid nineteen sixties, and split in the early nineteen eighties, their music would be considered to be in the funk, soul, rock genre.

On side one of the original album was:

"Dance To The Music" - 3:00
"Higher" - 2:49
"I Ain't Got Nobody (For Real)" - 4:26
Dance To The Medley - 12:12
"Music Is Alive"
"Dance In"
"Music Lover"

And on side two:

"Ride The Rhythm" - 2:48
"Color Me True" - 3:10
"Are You Ready" - 2:50
"Don't Burn Baby" - 3:14
"I'll Never Fall In Love Again" - 3:25

The 2007 CD release (which this review relates to) also has:
"Dance To The Music" (mono single version)
"Higher" (mono single version)
"Soul Clappin'"
"We Love All" (previously unreleased)
"I Can't Turn You Loose" (previously unreleased)
"Never Do Your Woman Wrong" (previously unreleased instrumental)

There's nothing I like more than to stick an album like this on, particularly when I have the house to myself, and just get down and dance (and sing... albeit badly!). This music is a real 'move-generator', you just can't help but to move around in rhythm to it, even if you're stuck at your computer, these sounds in the background may induce a chair-wiggle without even realising you're doing it.

Each track on the album has something ingenious about it, my favourite is the title track 'Dance To The Music', which was also used in part on the Shrek (2? I think) movie.

This album comes highly recommended, particularly if you're looking for something uplifting and groovy.

Summary: get on up...and dance to the music!
