Third - Portishead: ... is a true fact, yes she sounds great but for the most part her ramblings are either an attempt to be on a higher intellectual plain than you, or at least to paint the perception that she is. But it's that haunting score that then comes back to the forefront that I love so very much; it's an angry malevolent piece that screams "I'm here, I'm the daddy, I'm taking no prisoners!" At just over five minute...

Seres Seventh Tree - Goldfrapp
... into the stars by the end in a moment of music which is both enchanting and slightly nuts. That's the central issue with the album - whilst it is fascinating and highly pleasant, the shallow weirdness that circles the music might put you off. The dull thud of their music is gone, replaced by sunshine and choirs of angels and fields of corn and all that - but the love the duo have for the bizarre remains intact. "Little Bird" is a firm example of this strangeness, utilising a backwards loop of music that Sgt Pepper would be proud of to link the odd whispers of Goldfrapp's lyrics, which are as incomprehensible as they are involving. Something about birds being...

Seres Supernature - Goldfrapp
... Never Know seems forced and completely out of place here. It's an annoyance to listen to, although the chorus is a drastic improvement on the verses that precede. Meanwhile Number 1, perhaps the most low-key the band get on the album, walks away with the record. It's a sizzling electro pitter-patter which is seriously difficult to stop humming three days later. There are other moments of painful awkwardness - "Satin Chic", which seems to have been designed to emulate the arcade machines at the end of the pier, is so camp it's unlovable and irritating, and ultimately goes nowhere during the length of its three minute run. "Lovely 2 C U" is obviously...

GKDurkin Push The Button - Money Mark
... his debut-proper, if you will. Push the button is a thumbs up for DIY production, he plays instruments and sings on all 18 tracks with minimal appearances from sidekicks, who include super session drummer Jim Keltner no less. The sound can be a little rough and ready, but this just adds to a warm and intimate feel and par for the course in the lo-fi world, the vocals are clear and crisp and the sound is definitely by design rather than accident. Push the button is a colourful collection of skewed pop (Tomorrow Will Be Like Today), supple and subtle groves (Harmonics of Life, Dha Teen Ta) and jazzy shuffle (Bossa Nova) which, as you would expect from a Beasties alumn...
