I love this group. They aren't afraid to make shameless pop music. Not really in fashion in the UK, but very big in Sweden. They had a small bit of success in the UK off the back of 'Crying At The Discotheque'.
Who are they:
Swedish pop group comprising Andreas Lundstedt, Tess Merkel and Annika Kjærgaard
On this album:
Off to a good start with 'The World We Live In.' This samples Genesis to great effect and is a disco treat. A chanty chorus and plenty of hooks for the listener to latch onto, crisp production brings out the vocals really well too.
'Sexual Guarantee' is an original piece, another disco belter with a less saucy chorus than the title suggests. It is one of those tracks which could have come out in the late seventies. Sounds fresh and vibrant and exciting. 'Crying at the Discoteque' is brilliant with the kind of chord changes only the Swedes know how to pull off. Effortlessly catchy and full of little builds and again with a strong disco vibe. I also recommend listening to 'Physical' which is a sterling pop gem. One of those melodic pop choruses which nag away at you all day and a chance for all the vocalists to muck in too.
'Shine On' is just dirge. A bland, wet affair with a downbeat chorus and a melody which works against the lyrics.
Plenty of fine pop moments on here, 13 good tracks and 1 bad one result in a worthy disco fuelled album.
