What can you say about Dave Grohl? The man has drummed for arguably the biggest band of the nineties, written a complete movie soundtrack and also drummed and sang for his own band, the Foo Fighters. Those things all suggest to me that Dave was the real driving force behind Nirvana, even though Kurt Cobain obviously had a great deal of vocal and songwriting talent and was the “voice of the generation”. Unfortunately, the Foos have taken a step backward. Not sound wise, as the album “Nothing Left To Lose” is simply stunning on all counts, but it seems that a number of singles, namely “Breakout”, “Generator” ... Read the complete review

If you ask most Nirvana fans they'll say that Dave Grohl was responsible for really changing the sound of the band. The best example is to compare the drumming on Bleach to Nevermind and some of the tracks on Incesticide. Grohls drumming was so powerful it really gave Nirvana the agression they needed. Check out Breed on Nevermind for the perfect example. Even Kurt and Krist acknowledged the fact on a number of occasions. After Cobains suicide Grohl retuned quickly with his own band the Foo Fighters and carried on the grunge spirit. Dave's only previous solo effort was a song on the Lithium single.
