Advantages: Bangin' dance music!

Disadvantages: Averagey mixing and track selection, edited versions, some might call this "cheesy"...and a wide range of genres, which can be confusing!

Ahem...Dave Pearce?

Ok yeah. I was surprised too, and then expected loads of house music on a Euphoria CD, a series that has been solely trance-based until now.

This, the fifth Euphoria in the series, when you take away the two Ibiza editions, the chillout compilation and the latest Hard House Euphoria.

I have to admit, I was a bit nervy about splashing out another £15 on this latest edition, but I thought, as I have every othe r CD in the series so far, this can't be bad.

The reason I was unsure whether to buy was basically the look of the tracklist. The reason? I thought it looked:

a) A lot more "charty" and commercial than the kinda stuff I would usually go for, or prefer, and
b) There seemed to be a lot of Hard House towards the end of CD 1 - a plug for the latest CD?

Well, I had to think - trance, which I know and love, has been taken out of favour recently in the place of Hard House and (ahem) Garage. And luckily, there was no garage on this, AND I do like/love Hard House, so I reluctantly handed over my cash and rushed home to see whether my decision was right.

Well, what I got was NOT a technically superb mix. And no, it wasn't underground and completely trance-based either.

What I got was what I expected. Great dance music - just right for easy listening (without criticism) or parties.

The mixing isn't great - I never thought it would be, but in most cases a simple cross-fade seems to be fine. The tunes vary so much it's hard to put a label on it, but yoyu could label this under "club" music. I'm taking it to the next party I go to - ...because I like it for what it is.

But if I did want a superb mix album, heres a hint: go for either a Tiesto mix or one of the GU series.

Energetic stuff.

Did you ever see him live? I think he's not that good live. When i saw him he played three times Sandstorm...as if there arent any other tracks to play! Not very professional.

I agree with you 100%. The album is great for parties and it also has a few memorable tunes on the album ie Warrior and Warp Brothers. There is now a new euphoria album out that looks reasonable, i will write an opinion on it when i have bought it!

I wasn't sure about this album so I plumped for Trance Nation 4 instead. For clueless indieheads who like trance the Trance Nation and Gatecrasher series are all you need.
