Dawson's creek, a drama series about 5 teenagers (6 till Andie left, sob..sob) has an amazing soundtrack. While watching I always seem to find myself thinking how perfectly the songs were chosen to match each scene and also how much I would love to have some of the songs on Cd so I could sing along with them. Now I can and so can you, with Dawsons Creek volume 1 and 2 out to by in most good entertainment shops such as Virgin and HMV and they only costs around £10.99 each. Both album covers have a picture of the four main cast members on the front, which if your a Dawson's Creek fan will attract you straight away. I dont own volume 1 so I cant give a review on that but I am the proud owner of volume 2. Volume 2 varies through out the world but us lucky ones in the UK have the most songs on our version. There are 19 songs, with the first 13 appearing on all other albums. 1) I think I'm in love with you - Jessica Simpson 2) Crazy for this girl - Evan and Jaron 3) Respect - Train 4) I'm gonna make you love me - The Jayhwaks 5) Givin' up on you - Lara Fabian 6) Superman - Five for Fighting 7) If i am (Radio edit) - Nine days. 8) Never saw blue like that - Shawn Colven 9) I think God can explain (Radio version) - Splender 10) Broken boy - Michal 11) Just Another - Pete Yorn 12) Show me heaven - Jessica Andrews 13) Daydream believer - Mary Beth Maziarz 14) Watching you sleep (Radio edit) - Straw 15) Dancing in the moonlight - Toploader 16) From now on - Roachford 17) Heaven by your side - A1 18) Sweet suburban sky - Paddy Casey 19) Prayer - Dara As you can see there are way to many songs to give you a quick review of them all so i've decided to pick a few (mostly my favourites) to give you an idea whats on the album. Jessica Simpsons, I think I'm in love with you kick starts the album. To be honest this is one of my least favou
rites and it is so different from the soft rock and ballads on the album. It is almost a pop song. However this is still a great song and Jessicas voice is amazing. I'm gonna make you love me by the Jayhwaks is amazing this is one of my favourite songs from the album. It is a soft rock beat and makes you think that you can make whoever want love you. I remember when my boyfriend and I were just friends, I realised that I had fallen for him and after a drunken snog the next morning he said that we shouldn?t have kissed and that he didn?t want to be with me. After a quick sob I listen to this song and went out to make him love me. Now we've been together for almost 2 years. Five for Fightings Superman is amazing my boyfriend like this song so much he went out and bought their album. It's great to listen to when you've failed something, because it makes you realise that everyone?s human and everyone cant be expected to be able to do everything, even superman. Not only does it make you feel great but it has a great beat and the lead vocalists voice is very unuasual, but it makes the song more interesting to listen to. My favourite song in the whole world is also on this album. A cover of the Monkies Day Dream Believer by Mary Marziarz is amazing. Its a lot slower than the monkies version and the words are slightly different, I think the Monkies's is better but personally i prefer this version. Dancing in the Moonlight by Toploader is one that everyones heard before. Begining with amazing keyboarding this song just makes you want to get up and dance around your living room. Finally I have to tell you about Sweet Suburban Sky by Paddy Casey. I love this song, its very mellow and slow, it isnt very instrumental, just a bit of acoustic guitar every now and then. I cant remember when this song was used in the series but a tenner bet it was during a very emotional moment, possibly a sad moment. Aren'
;t you glad I didnt write about every song on the album? I havent got much left to say just that if your a fan of Dawson's I'm sure you'll like this soundtrack. For the rest of you who dont watch it (???) if you like your soft rock and ballads then I'm positive that you'll like this album, so go out and buy it NOW!
I haven't got a clue about Dawson's Creek, I've never watched the programme in my life and am unlikely ever too. From what I can ascertain from the kids on the street its a modern day version of Heartbreak High or Beverley Hills 90210, if that's wrong please forgive me. What we get though is 13 songs from the series and the lovely chaps at Columbia have chosen another 6 bonus tracks for our listening pleasure. It gets off to an impressive sugar coated start with Jessica Simpson. The teenage lolita groans her way through the Mariah Carey lite of "I Think I'm Love With You", its the classic single that we heard earlier in the year and 6 months on it hasn't lost any of its spark or vitality. She's been called a Britney / Christina clone but on the strength of this song alone she can more than match them in the tonsils department. Things go rapidly downhill with Evan and Jaron's "Crazy For This Girl". Its the type of insipid tune that sound so apt when you're watching TV but try and play it at any other time and you can't help but cringe. Saying that though its the type of bland, American rock that sells so well. Much of the rest of this album follows the same pattern with Shawn Colvin and Five For Fighting being the chief suspects. The Jayhawks "I'm Gonna Make You Love Me" is a classic for me, and probably me alone. Its been one of those songs that have constantly been on the stereo since I received the single earlier in the ear. Its not until track 10 that we get another highlight with Michal, a strange gender confusing vocal which is indeterminate between a pre-pubescent Taylor Hanson or just a young girl. "Broken Boy" though is one of those strangely alluring rock songs that works its way into your head with its innocent charm. I feel that you really have to watch the show to fully appreciate this album but amongst the low points if you look h
ard enough you can find some charming tracks such as Mary Beth Maziarz "Daydream Believer", Straw's "Watching You Sleep" or any of the aforementioned highlights. Fans of the show will love it as it will remind then of all their favourite Dawson's moments, for that reason alone I can't really put this album in its true light because I know at the end of the day if they had a soundtrack for one of my favourite programs i'd rush out and buy it. I know an album is in a different league to a TV program, but I would rather listen to this CD that watch the show anyday. What is it with these American teeny shows, they always have great soudtracks, and stage for new and fresh talent and this disc is no exeption. Containing some classic tracks by bands that, though popular in the US, have done little over here. For example, "Five For Fighting", a great band with a great album but have done little over here. To come to a rather blunt ending, a fantastic album !
I must say that although I do try to follow the series as much as I can, I am not a true die hard fan of the series, but one thing I definely am is a big fan of all the songs from Dawson's Creek. After all the waiting, Volume 2 is finally out. If you liked the first album, definitely get this one. Almost all of the songs are from Season 2 of the series. There are 19 songs in the UK release of the albums (with six bonus tracks) including big names like Jessica Simpson with the song I Think I'm in Love With You and A1 with Heaven by Your Side. There are a number of fantastic ballads in the album which include classics like Daydream Believer sung by Mary Beth Maziarz, Show Me Heaven by Jessica Andrews and others like Never Saw Blue Like That by Shawn Colvin and Superman by Five For Fighting. More upbeat tunes are from Evan and Jaron, Nine Days and also a song from Toploader (Dancing In the Moonlight). I must say that this album was above my expectations and I enjoyed it much more then the first. Volume 2 debuted at number 59 on the Billboard 200 USA charts and deservedly so. So, go and get your copy if you have not done so.. you won't regret it!! Its one of those albums that you can listen to again and again and again ..for me at least :o) By the way, you can get it cheaper then most high street stores over the internet i.e. Amazon.co.uk is selling it for £11.99. But do remember that if its the only thing you buy, plus the delivery charge, the difference might not be significant.
