Sadly the album I think was not as good as its predecessor but that was going to be hard as it was one of the best albums Queen ever recorded. It still produced 3 classic tracks. Tie Your Mother Down a fast rock song, Somebody to Love which features Freddie at his best and Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy. Another track that I love on this album but other may not agree is You Take My Breath Away. A very slow song with Freddie and the piano. The album was known ...more

Premium Review A Day At The Races - Queen: Classy Artsy Stuff (and nonsense...) (335 words)

A Day At The Races by Queen was first released in 1976. I didn't care for it much then and I still don't think it's great now. That's not because it's a bad album or anything, just because a lot of the songs on here don't appeal to me personally. Some of the songs are here are classic rock and roll songs. For example "Tie Your Mother Down", the first song on the album, is very 'get up and go'. It's a great song and one that I like on its own. There are far too many floaty songs on here though. This includes "You Take My Breath Away" which just drones on to be honest and "Teo Torriatte" (showing off with a Japanese name). ...  Read the complete review

Queen - 'A Day at the Races ' - released 1976 . Following on from the hugely successful 'Night at the Opera' , what better than the title 'A Day at the Races' ? So this time around , what do you get for your money , and could he album live up to the standards set by 'A Night at the Opera' ? Well , for starters you get 10 great tracks , again encompassing a wide range of musical styles , although it should be said that this could have almost been called 'The Love Album' , however such a title would not befit a rock group ! And yes , is does live up to the high standards set by the last album The ...  Read the complete review

A Day at the Races is an album by the band Queen. It is the fifth album and was released in December 1976. The album was the bands first completely self-produced album. It was recorded at Sarm East, The Manor and Wessex Studios in England. The album title was picked as a follow on from the previous album A Night at the Opera. The album reached number one in the Uk and several other countries. Sadly the album I think was not as good as its predecessor but that was going to be hard as it was one of the best albums Queen ever recorded. It still produced 3 classic tracks. Queen showed that they are a group that can produce more than the one or two good albums when they release this album. Looking at this album, Queen show light rock and heavy rock, and they sound great when playing both. This album is on par With A Night At the Opera, although there isn't a song on it that is quite as good as "Bohemian Rhapsody". "Tie Your Mother Down" is a great rock song which is many fans favourite, Queen play this song very well live too, in fact in most of their live concerts this song was featured, which is why most Queen fans will recognise this title. Brian May again demonstrates why he is regarded as one of the best ...  Read the complete review
