Ordo Ad Chao - Mayhem

Premium Review Haunting but too slow for your average listener (236 words)

Rating:

surrounding Mayhem, a band whose notoriously selfish and satanic guitarist was killed and whose original vocalist killed himself. Their satanic imagery on stage does little to change that. Mayhem have come to define Black Metal and their latest album Ordo Ad Chao won numerous plaudits from various critics, I m not all that wild about it though. Whilst the musicianship is faultless and Hungarian vocalist Attilla Csihar pulls off the vocals perfectly which some may seem necessary and superb for the genre. You can still buy it You might not yet have it!

Plenty of good songs Not the most varied album in the world

Fiercely aggressive, intelligent lyrics May offend sensibilities of certain people

Unique take on Viking metal. May be too melodic for black metal fans.

Great riffs, catchy songs, good production, full of character Some weaker moments, occasionally monotonous

Angry. Not so much a celebration as another churning of the same tired album.
