... is a great shame too. That said, the one and only ballad, More Than You Deserve is by far the highlight of the album, which despite having energy in abundance fails to capture the imagination. Regardless, the passion and power of Meatloaf is ever present, and the charisma of his songs cannot be ignored even if the title track is quite average at best. Add a solid ballad to a few sprightly rockers at the start, and despite feeling a little thin in places, Dead Ringer is a pretty decent solo rock n' roll effort...more

Premium Review Dead Ringer - Meat Loaf: Good... But Not Great (159 words)

Certainly, it is fair to say that Dead Ringer is a big disappointment after the desert island Bat Out Of Hell record, which in honestly couldn't really have been bettered anyway. The album doesn't have the diverse variation of its predecessor, and the lack of ballads is a great shame too. That said, the one and only ballad, More Than You Deserve is by far the highlight of the album, which despite having energy in abundance fails to capture the imagination. MEAT LOAF - DEAD RINGER ----------------------- Marvin Lee Aday (AKA Meat Loaf) is most well known for his Bat out of Hell albums, two of the biggest selling records of all time much to the surprise of the critics at the time. After the release of the smash hit album Bat out of Hell, Meat released this album, in 1981, although it never reached the high sales figures of the previous hit, it still sells to this day and is a massive album. Meat first started making music in the mid 60's, where he performed with various bands, but he never really made the mark with any of them. So he took to working with theater musicals instead, ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Dead Ringer - Meat Loaf: Typical Meaty (494 words)

What can I say? It's Meatloaf and about 5 seconds into the first song when you hear the motorbike engine revving...u know it's real meaty! It's the same Meat Loaf that I'm sure most people know and love - a good selection of Rocky Guitar Songs and Slow, weepy ballads. The mix of songs is ideal and I think that most people who have a love of Meatloaf are going to LOVE this album. There aren't as many "famous" songs on this album, and it's possibly one of the lesser known CD's, but I feel it's still as good as any of his famous songs. I'm a big Meat Loaf fan and think that is part of the reason I love this CD so much, I ...  Read the complete review

'Rock n' roll n' brew...' (326 words)

Four years after the original release of the almost immortal album "Bat Out Of Hell", Meat Loaf's second album "Dead Ringer" is very weak in comparrison. According to some, Meat Loaf lost his voice and that was the reason why Meat's song writer and producer Jim Steinman released what was going to be the follow up "Bad For Good" instead. Six months later, "Dead Ringer" came out and was the first to be exclusively produced by Steinman (Todd Rungdren co-produced "Bat 1" and "Bad For Good") "Dead Ringer" is a rush job as the attention to detail Steinman gives a production is nowhere near ...  Read the complete review
