Despite being hardcore punk of the fastest variety, this isn't as off-puttingly violent as bands like Agnostic Front or similarly crossover thrash bands such as Biohazard. With its approachable vocals and memorable guitars (when they're not just going flat-out), this remains approachable while still being authentically gritty. Rating:

The second album of youth angst from hardcore punk band D.R.I. adopts a greater thrash metal influence than its predecessor, but really this is only evident in Spike Cassidy's heavier guitar riffs in the few songs that exceed a minute or so in length. For the most part, this is fast, angry, slightly screechy punk, covering a range of topics and even including a genuine recording of a disappointingly amiable argument between Kurt Brecht and his father over the volume the band is playing at while he's trying to relax after work. Watching From a Distance - Warning
Unparalleled despair. Repetitive and mood-specific, and hard to find.

Wigand - Adorned Brood
Interesting and dogmatic take on the folk metal genre. Becomes repetitive and dull fairly quickly, winding up discordant more often than harmonious.

Bad Religion - Bad Religion
Fun and competent debut release. Only 'Sensory Overload' really stands out as an early classic.

Dynamic Gallery Of Thoughts - And Oceans
Experimental black metal that isn't pompous. Less ambitious than their later releases (I've completely contradicted myself here, I know).

Easy Pieces - Lloyd Cole and the Commotions
Pleasant poppy sound, suitably gloomy lyrics Can be a bit gentle for my tastes

The Very Best Of Ray Charles - Ray Charles
Ray Charles Greatest Hits !

Tomorrow Will Never Come - Agalloch
Another nice acoustic song from Don Anderson. A pointless remix, and a pointlessly obscure release in general.
