You Are Free - Cat Power
by AprilMay - written on 04/08/08 (Very useful, 52 readings)
Rating:
melancholy, and yet angsty sound. All about the demands of performing in front of a crowd and feeling resentful towards the expectations, this is something that anyone who has seen Cat Power live will probably relate to in her own performances. She sometimes performs perfectly and people rave about her, other times she raves on stage, doesn t finish songs, and generally disappoints the audience. It s definitely hit and miss. He War is a more rocky song, with electric guitar and Cat Power singing her own back up vocals. Her voice is really like honey - so silky and soulful but with a hint of something rougher in there that makes it interesting. You re never going to ...

Jukebox - Cat Power
by SpookyMoon - written on 28/05/09 (Very useful, 9 readings)
Rating:
vibrant and airy drums and guitars and her voice teases them out playfully giving you back something different than what you would expect. The best way that I can describe the overal feeling of this is totally clever-cute. The selection of songs are taken from the jazz, blues and soul era making this album really ecclectic. Overall it has a laid back easy listening feel and this album really has a way of making you feel at ease. I could definitely recommend giving Cat Power a ...

The Greatest - Cat Power

Rating:
nothing less than a complete shambles. Yet here we are, you reading this review and me stating now, for the record, that "The Greatest" is truly the best album Cat Power has ever released. It s a touching, powerful look into her psyche, and is as redemptive and confessional as anything Amy has released, but with a frailty that puts her in another musical league. From the powerhouse ballads to the quiet, lyrical twists she s well-known for, all that makes Cat Power the unique musical entity that she is can be found on "The Greatest", along with several new musical strengths. The songs here have a generally sparse feel, even though backing is provided ...
